Robert W. Haney, 65

Robert W. Haney, 65, of 153 River Bend Park, Lancaster, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at Lancaster General Hospital. 

Born in Phillipsburg, NJ, Robert was the son of the late Walter “Bounce” and Anna Ortelli Haney.  He was married on Sept. 1, 1962 to Marie B. (Storm) Haney. 

Robert was a 1958 graduate of St. Philip & James High School in Phillipsburg, NJ. He is also a graduate of St. Francis Prep, Spring Grove, PA, and he attended Rutgers University, Elizabeth, NJ.

Robert was owner of Carvel Ice Cream Store in the Kmart Shopping Center for 18 years, from 1987 until present.  Prior to that, he was employed as a salesman by Firestone Paper & Supply Co. from 1972-87, and was utility foreman with Bell Telephone from 1964-72.  He served in the US Air Force from 1960-64. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.

Robert was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 867, serving as their Grand Knight from 1986-88.  He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and a member of Santa Maria Assembly.  Bob was a CFAC Board Member of the Carvel Corporation; founding member Catholic Football Athletic Club at Lancaster Catholic High School; founding member of Park City Sertoma (now Red Rose); past board member of S. June Smith Center; LCHS Past President Athletic Association 1982 & 83; PIAA football official 1966 – 86; Little League baseball coach (Leed’s American/ Lancaster Township); and a member of Knights of Columbus Council 867 bowling team.

Surviving in addition to his wife, are children, Lisa H., wife of Christopher P. Lydon, of Cumberland, RI, Lori A. wife of James J. Wagner of Lancaster, Shawn R. Haney, husband of Kerry L (Kwiat) of Lititz; grandchildren, Patrick, Sean, & Meghan Lydon, and Mary Elizabeth Wagner; sisters, Christine, wife of Bernard Mattes of Dover, DE, and Noreen, wife of Donald Lorenzo of Phillipsburg, NJ; 11 nieces and nephews.

He was a loving husband and father, an adoring grandfather, loyal friend, and dedicated volunteer to any activity he endorsed.  He loved playing golf and watching all sports.  His generous spirit was apparent to all who knew him. 

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial being held at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 501 E. Orange St., Lancaster, on Monday at 11 AM.  There will be a viewing at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 414 E. King St., Lancaster, on Sunday evening from 6 – 8 PM; the Holy Rosary will be recited at 8 PM. A second viewing will be held at the funeral home on Monday Morning from 9:30 – 10:30 AM.  Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.  Please omit flowers; contributions in Bob’s memory may be sent to S. June Smith Center, 600 Eden Road, Lancaster, PA 17601 or to the James F. Keppel Foundation, 4036 Hollow Road, Easton, PA 18045 in honor of Bob’s nephew.
