Robert N. Sherts, 86
Robert N. Sherts, 86, of 291 Tennyson Drive , Lancaster, PA. entered into rest at Conestoga View on July 15,2007 with his family by his side.
He was the husband of Janet E. Lichty Sherts and they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on May 16, 2007.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Amos L. and Mae Newswanger Sherts. Bob was a 1939 graduate of McCaskey High School, where he was class president.
He was a Corporal in the 364th field Artillery Battalion in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a heavy machine gunner in the Ardennes, Rhinelands and Central Europe Campaigns.
Bob was a 25 year veteran of the Lancaster City Police Department and was well known as the living monument at the corner of Queen and Orange Streets, where he directed traffic. He was a recipient of the Hamilton Award and the Governor’s Award for Traffic Safety. Following his retirement from the police force, he became Market Master for Central and Southern Markets. He retired in 1986. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughters: Barbara M. married to Richard L. Gunning Jr. of Lancaster, Judith A. married to Ronald W. Savage of Ronks, and Kathe E. married to Ronald A. Weaver of Lititz, nine grandchildren , nine great grandchildren and a brother John E(Jack) married to Jane Sherts of Rohrerstown.
Services will be held at St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 501 E. Orange Street, Lancaster on Thursday, July 19, 2007 at 11:00AM. Interment will be held in St Joseph New Catholic Cemetery There will be a viewing at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 414 E. King Street, Lancaster on Wednesday Evening from 7:00-9:00 PM and on Thursday morning from 9:30-10:30AM. Contributions may be made in Bob’s memory to: Conestoga View, Fifth floor, Alzheimer Unit, 900 E. King Street, Lancaster, PA. 17602.

My condolences for the Sherts family. My grandfather Alcarese served with Mr. R. SHERTS in WW2 with the 364th F.A. Battalion, 76th Division.
