Robert H. Fogg Sr., 94

March 11, 2018

Robert H. Fogg Sr., 94, of Manheim, passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Uniontown, PA he was the son of the late Howard S. “H.S.” Fogg and Nelly M. (Shaffer) Fogg. He was also married to Linda J. (Kugle) Fogg, with whom he shared 31 wonderful years of marriage.
Robert graduated from Monaca High School in 1940 and went on to attend Iowa State University, where he earned his B.A., and Indiana University and Westminster College, where he earned his M.A. Between schools, Robert served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. After earning his multiple degrees, he was compelled to teach others. He began his career in education at Beaver Falls High School, where he taught until 1966. From 1966 to 1969 he was a professor at New Wilmington College and went on to teach public speaking and theatre at Millersville University from 1969 to 1987. During his time as an educator, Robert was an AIFS leader and took high school and undergraduate students abroad to Europe to help them further their studies in drama.
Robert was a life long academic of the arts. When he wasn’t studying or teaching he could be found reading anything from Shakespearian works to thrilling mysteries set in modern times. He loved to travel and experience new things and greatly enjoyed his trips to Europe and time spent in England. Robert was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, especially along the Allegheny River or anywhere good company could be found. Robert was also a devoted fan to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates.
Robert is survived by his wife, Linda J. (Kugel) Fogg; children Robert H. Fogg Jr, and his wife Sandy M. Fogg; step-children Jodi L. Lefever, wife of Bryan Lefever, and Scott Slonaker. He is also survived by grandchildren Amanda Conlin, Natasha (Conlin) Harvan, wife of Tim Harvan, Shay Conlin, and Kara Conlin; and step-grandchildren Tyler Lefever and his wife Kathy (Quigg) Lefever, and Brook (Lefever) Martin and her husband Douglas Martin; as well as nine great-grandchildren in total. He is also survived by his brother Bill Fogg, his wife Jody Fogg, niece Emily Fogg, and nephews Mark Fogg and Paul Fogg. He is predeceased by his daughter, Sue Ann Fogg.

Linda,
We were in watercolor class together with Sandy Roland. I remember how fondly you spoke of your husband. I send my sympathy to you and your family.

Linda, I was Mr. Fogg’s secretary at MU for years.  May I say that he was “one of a kind”.  He was so much fun to work with and he treated me as an equal.  He even came to my birthday party AND danced with me.  I have never worked with another professor that was so kind to me.  I was just thinking about last week, wondering how you two were.  Remember me, I was the one that did all your typing!!!!

Linda,
You have lost the daily presence of the love of your life. It cannot be easy, even with the pain of his decline! One measure of his love is how long he continued to hold on to you and life. How blessed you two were to have each other for so many years. Oh, the memories you carry.
i’m sorry that I will not be able to be at the funeral Friday afternoon, but you will be in my thoughts.
Love, Bette Phillips-Hershey

Dr. Fogg was my academic advisor at MU in 1985-86. Bob was a tough teacher who demanded the best of his students. At the same time, he had a huge heart and cared deeply about them. He was always available to meet, and dispensed advice and admonishment in equal measure.
For some reason, he ended up teaching a Television 2 Class in just eight weeks (rather than the traditional 15), and the intensity of that experience made me value his mentorship all the more. I still have a picture of him with the rest of the class at my house celebrating the end of that class. You really can’t be more shocked than to have your professor show up at your house at 9 p.m. on a Friday evening!
I think of him often as I reflect on my time at MU. He was an important part of my education.
My most sincere condolences to the family on your loss.

It is with sadness that I read about Dr. Fogg’s death. May it comfort you to know that he won his crown in heaven years ago as he patiently worked with me in speech class. He was kind enough not to laugh out loud as I stumbled along trying to follow his instructions. May he Rest In Peace.
