Robert G. Wiegand, 91

Robert G. “Doc” Wiegand, 91, of 934 Rolridge Avenue, Lancaster, died Monday, August 14, 2006 at home after a brief illness.

He was the husband of the late Anna F. Rehklau Wiegand, who died in January 2003.

Born January 24, 1915 in the Cabbage Hill neighborhood of Lancaster, he was the son of the late George Anton and Leona Hoffmeyer Wiegand.

Robert worked in linoset design in the inspection cut order department of Armstrong World Industries Lancaster Floor Plant for 46 years, retiring in 1981. From 1987-1993, he worked part time for Gundling Organ Company, Inc.

Robert was a 1933 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School.

He was an active lifelong member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church serving as an usher for many years. In his youth he was active in the Saint Joseph Athletic Club and refereed basketball games in the local area. He had a keen interest in the history of trains, planes, and automobiles as well as current events. He and his wife, Anna, played cards with the same card club for 45 years and enjoyed dancing at many German fests throughout the area.

He is survived by four daughters: Kathleen W., wife of Walter J. Gundling, Mountville; Camille M., wife of Allen W. Leed, Lancaster; Roberta A., wife of Robert S. Krewson, Jr., Lancaster; and Barbara A. Watson, Lancaster; 9 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by four sisters: Amelia Wiegand, Margaret T. Wiegand, Rose W. Heim and Jeanette W. Knotwell; and three brothers: John, Emil G. and Henry J. Wiegand.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial from St. Joseph Catholic Church on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held at the Church on Saturday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Interment in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery, Bausman, PA. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Robert’s memory to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Drive, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125 or to St. Joseph Catholic Church Organ Fund, , 440 St. Joseph Street, Lancaster, PA 17603.
