Robert C. Egan, 86

Robert C. Egan, 86, of St. Anne’s Retirement Community, formerly of Lancaster and Port St. Lucie, FL, died Friday, July 13, 2007 at Hospice of Lancaster County.

Born in Sunbury, PA, Bob was the son of the late Charles B. and Ella Kerstetter Egan.  He was married for 61 years to Alice S. Smith Egan.

Bob was a 1938 graduate of Sunbury High School, and attended Mount St. Mary’s College.

A veteran of World War II, Bob served in the US Navy as a Boatswain Mate 1st Class.  He trained in Newport RI, and was first assigned to the navy destroyer USS Overton.  His duties included patrolling the Caribbean for German submarines, and he was credited for sinking one sub.  He was transferred to Norfolk for new guns and radar.  His next tour of duty took him to Iceland, Gibraltar, Casablanca, back through the Panama Canal to the Pacific theatre.  His first assignment was in the Linguyon Gulf, where he assisted in transporting marines to Kawjelein Beach.

Robert was vice president of Slick Craft Boats, Holland, MI, and vice president of marketing for Leisure Products of AMF Co.  He was founder and president of International Travel Trailer, which he sold to Sun Line Travel Trailers, still being manufactured. Bob held various executive sales positions in the boating industry throughout his career.

He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.

In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by his children, Patrick M. Egan, husband of Jane, and Peter C. Egan, both of Lancaster; and Lucinda C. Egan of Palm Beach, FL; 6 grandchildren; and two sisters, Christine Lahout, wife of Joseph of Sebastian, FL, and Kathleen Taylor, wife of Jerry, of Penn Furnace, PA.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 558 W. Walnut Street, Lancaster, on Tuesday, July 17, at 11:00 AM.  A viewing will be held at the church from 10 until 11 AM.  A private interment will be held at the convenience of the family at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.  Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bob’s memory to St. Anne’s Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Ave., Columbia, PA 17512, or Hospice of Lancaster County, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
