Richard S. Vogel, 85

Richard S. Vogel, 85, of Mount Joy, passed away at Hospice of Lancaster County Mt. Joy center on March 4, 2012.  Born in Manheim, PA, he was the son of the late Raymond Vogel and the late Harriet (Becker) Vogel.  Richard is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Helen L. (Gochenour) Vogel.

Richard graduated from J. P. McCaskey High School in 1945 and was a member of the Lutzite Club.  During High School, he was the assistant manager of the Grand Movie Theatre on N. Queen St.  He served as Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII, stationed in the South Pacific on bases in Guam and Leyte.  After the war, Richard was also in the Lancaster National Guard.  He was formerly employed at New Holland Machine Co., and retired from Alumax/Alcoa after working there as an credit manager for 15 years.  Following retirement, he worked in the office of the Manheim Auto Auction for 14 years.  Richard was a member of Lancaster Moravian Church and the American Legion Post 429, in Ephrata.  He enjoyed aviation, coaching Little League Baseball, and was avid Phillies and Penn State fan.  Richard loved spending time with his family and granddaughters.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Marla A. Konas, wife of Thomas V. Konas of Mount Joy, PA, and Doug A. Vogel, husband of Sally H. Vogel of Sellersville, PA; granddaughters Elena Konas, and Carol and Sandra Vogel; and sister Lily Cooper of Ephrata, PA.  Richard was preceded in death by his Siblings, Hester Goshert, Ethel Huss-Ercolino, and James and Charles Vogel.

Visitation will be held on Saturday March 10th at 10 until 11 AM and a Memorial Service at 11 AM at Lancaster Moravian Church, 1460 Eden Road Lancaster, PA 17601.    Interment Private.  Contributions may be made in his memory to Lancaster Moravian Church, or Hospice of Lancaster County, P.O.
