Richard Rutherford, 65

June 25, 2017

Richard Rutherford, 65, of Newmanstown passed away Sunday June 25, 2017. Born in Lancaster County, PA he was the son of the late John and Thelma (Gunther) Rutherford. He was the husband of Jan Rutherford.
He graduated from Lebanon Valley College with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Richard worked in management at the former Mi-Jan Fabrics, Inc. in Denver, PA for over 20 years.
Richard had a love for cars and was very knowledgeable about all of them. His love of cars led him to starting his children’s racing careers in 1986 – a sport still in their lives today.
In addition to his wife Jan of Newmanstown, he is survived by his daughter, Angie Guhl wife of Donald and son, Michael Rutherford, both of Lititz. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Tori and Annika and a cousin, Barbara Cramer Crouse of OH.
In keeping with Richard’s wishes there will be no formal services.

I will always remember you Rich as a good person and my Friend. See you again.

I may be the first, and probably only, person to write a condolence here that didnt have a personal connection with the man, but Rich was a mentor of sorts to me for about only half a year before he took his unexpected leave. He taught me many things – how to write properly, how not to write, he taught me paitience and above all else, he helped me to open up and showed me that there is beauty in everything if you look. I am greatly upset that I will never get to meet in person the man I knew only from behind the screen, but my deepest regards got o his friends and family, that you may find peace in his absence. And to Rich, WSF, I give you the best of thoughts and may you throw one mean party up there. When I get the first chance possible, I’m coming to visit your grave and pay tribute to you in perosn. I
My welcome here is about up, so I shall depart. Blessed Be, my dear friend.

My name is Regina Goldstein and I worked with Rich in Giant.  I send my deepest condolences to Rich’s entire family on his untimely passing.
Rich was always an upbeat kind of guy who always  had a smile on his face.  I remember that he was always on the go and he always seemed like he was in such a hurry that very often I would tease him that I was going to get him a pair of roller skates.  Rich was a very good, dedicated worker and just an all around nice guy and a nice guy to work with.  Again, my deepest condolences on his passing.
Rich was always very willing to lend a helping hand when someone needed help.  He was exceptionally kind and polite to the customers and everybody enjoyed working with him.  May he rest in peace.

I can’t begin to express my sympathy for the loss of Rich.  He was my best friend for over 8 years.  I knew him as funny, intelligent, kind, talented, and a gentle man.  I will remember our laughter, our long talks, and exploring places neither of us had been.  He will forever have a place in my heart.

I was saddened to hear of Richard’s passing.  He was my only cousin on the Rutherford side of the family and we grew up together.  I left the Lancaster area in 1964 and we lost touch with each other for many years even though we visited with Aunt Thelma and Uncle Johnny every few years and would hear news about him.  I am glad to say that it was a delight to renew our relationship just a few years ago!  I will miss him.  My husband Randy joins me in sending our sincere sympathy to the rest of the family at this time.
Love and prayers,
Barbara Cramer Crouse

I am so sorry to hear this.  Richard and I were in high school together, and in many classes together throughout those years.  He was always upbeat, always friendly, a great guy.  I am sorry his life wasn’t longer.  Sending condolences to his family.

I went to Lebanon Valley College with Rich, and have many fond memories of our days there.  I was from Lancaster and Rich would drive us home sometimes and we’d have a meal at my parents house.  I express my condolences to Rich’s family during this difficult time.
Sincerely,
George Casey
