Richard J. Keller, 84

Richard J. Keller, 84, of Elizabethtown, died Friday, December 1, 2017 at ManorCare Heath Services-Elizabethtown. He was born in Enola to the late George E., Sr. and Frances Wethkamp Keller. Richard was the husband of Thelma Alleman Keller for 61years last June 2nd.

He graduated from Enola High School in 1951and took night classes at Elizabethtown College. Richard served in the US Army as a CPL (T) with HQ BTRY 675th ABN FA BN as an airplane mechanic during the Korean War.

Richard worked at Olmstead AFB before being drafted in 1952 and returned for 16 years after being discharged in 1955. He then worked as a system analyst for the US Army Security Assistance Center at New Cumberland Army Depot, retiring in 1990.

A very active member of Reich’s Evangelical Congregational Church for 61 years, he served as Sunday school teacher and superintendent, lay delegate, steward and treasurer. Richard was a member of Elizabethtown American Legion Post 329.

In addition to his loving wife Thelma, Richard is survived by their son Richard L. Keller, husband of Donna (Stewart) of Wapwallopen and daughter Gail K., wife of James L. Frey, Jr. of Elizabethtown; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; 3 siblings, Lewis E. Keller and Nancy M. Keller of Marysville and Virginia Sprague of Lincoln, CA. He was preceded in death by 6 siblings, George E. Keller, Jr., Hilda I. Fisher, Helen E. Bolton, David C. Keller, Laura R. Smith and Ruth E. Hilbish.

A celebration of Richard’s life will take place 11 AM Saturday Dec. 9, 2017 at Reich’s E.C. Church with Pastor Dan Blank officiating. Private interment in East Donegal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Reich’s E.C. Church, 338 Stackstown Road, Marietta, PA 17547 or to the East Donegal / Conoy Christian Food Bank, 155 Vinegar Ferry Road, Marietta, PA 17547.
