Ozella Shelley, 77

The hands of death sealed the lips of Ozella Shelley, beloved wife and mother on Thursday, July 31 at Conestoga View after a lengthy illness.  Ozella was born June 6, 1911 to the union of Jim and Alberta Ritchey, in the city of Sunflower County, MS.  She was the youngest of 5 children born to the union.

She accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age at the Old Mount Zion Church.  She was the secretary of the church for 18 years.  Ozella worked for East Side High School in Cleveland, MS as a cafeteria cook, and custodian.  She also did private domestic work.

She was united in holy matrimony with Jesse Shelley Sr., and to that union was 7 children; 2 daughters and 5 sons.

After moving back to Sunflower County, she rejoined Old Mt. Zion Church, where she remained until moving to Lancaster, PA. She became a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church of Lancaster.  She enjoyed cooking and sharing her creations with family and friends.  She loved being with family and friends, and always gave to those in need.

Surviving are her children, Georgia M. Johnson, Henry L. Shelley, husband of Carmen, Ivson Shelley, husband of Angie, and Modene Lewis, all of Lancaster, 37 grandchildren, 77 greatgrandchildren, and 18 great-greatgrandchildren.  She was very proud of her legacy of 139 direct descendents.  She was preceded in death by three sons, Robert, Jesse Jr., and Floyd.  She was the last of five children.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 12 noon at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 148 Locust St., Lancaster, PA with the Rev. Roland P. Forbes officiating.  A viewing will be held on Friday evening from 6 until 8 PM at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 414 E. King St., Lancaster, PA.  A second viewing will be held at the church from 11 until 12 noon.  Interment will be in Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery.  To send online condolences, please visit www.snyderfuneralhome.com.
