Olin S. Simpson, 92

Born March 15, 1920, in Altoona, PA, Olin S. Simpson, 92, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 12, 2012.  A resident of Landis Homes, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis D. Simpson, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.

Olin graduated from Penn State University in 1949 with a B.S. in horticulture and held active membership in the Alpha Zeta and the Pi Alpha Xi fraternities.  Stationed as a medic during World War II, Olin met his beloved wife during his army hospital service in England.  An injury sustained during WWII necessitated changing careers from landscaping to teaching.  Receiving his teaching certificate in 1960, Olin taught fifth and sixth graders in the Penn Manor School District until his retirement.  He worshipped his Savior at Westminster Presbyterian Church.  Olin’s twinkly blue eyes, good humor, generosity and kindness will be deeply missed by family and friends.

He is survived by his children: Carolyn J. married to William L. Salmon III of Lancaster; his son William S. married to Beth Alecxih of Bear, DE; his five grandchildren: Amy Goldston, Brian Salmon, Chelsea, Ian, and Gwendolyn Simpson; and by two great grandchildren Halle and Acacia Goldston.

Graveside interment services will be on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 1PM at Landis Valley Mennonite Cemetery, Oregon Pike and Valley Rd., Lancaster, PA with a Memorial Service to follow at Landis Homes West Bethany Chapel at 4:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Westminster Pulpit Radio Program, 2151 Oregon Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601.  To send an online condolence, please visit www.SnyderFuneralHome.com.
