Myra Jane Bard Stauffer, 92

Myra Jane Bard Stauffer, 92, passed away at Brethren Village on Wednesday, May 17, 2017. She was born in Sinking Spring to the late Robert E. and Maggie (Becker) Bard. This June, Myra and her husband Jay Richard Stauffer would have celebrated 69 years of marriage.
She graduated from Denver High School in 1942, Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing in 1946 and completed her bachelor’s degree in Nursing in 1980 at Millersville University. She had been an Army Nurse Cadet near the end of WWII. Myra worked as a registered nurse for the Lancaster General Hospital for 6 years. She more recently volunteered for Hospice & Community Care and Head Start in Lancaster.
Myra was a member of Lancaster Church of the Brethren and formerly belonged to Lancaster County Garden Club and Lancaster Country Club. She had studied at the Barnes Foundation for two years to become a docent under Dr. Albert C. Barnes’s lover, Violetta Demazia, who ran the foundation after his death.
In addition to her husband Jay, Myra is survived by their two sons, Jay Richard Stauffer, Jr., husband of Dixie of Julian, PA and Timothy Bard Stauffer, husband of Lamont O’Neal of Yardley, PA; two grandchildren, Dana Beth Palmer of Anchorage, AL and Brian David Stauffer, husband of Alison of Julian, PA; three great-grandchildren, Drew Palmer, Jack Ryan Stauffer and Charlie Joseph Stauffer; and her sister Hilda Marie (Bard) Garrett. Myra was preceded in death by her five sisters and one brother.
Graveside services and interment in Lancaster Church of the Brethren Memorial Garden will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Community Care, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
