What a privilege to be a small part of such a wonderful person’s life.  Michael was a pleasure to be around even in those last dark months of his life.  I felt honored to be a small part of his nursing care as he fought for his life. I will always remember his love of his family and his SMILE.  May God’s love and grace surround you as you grieve.  Joanne McCrea (infusion room)

Our prayers are with you. Mike was a great person and we will miss him. Know that he is with the Lord and in a better place.

Loretta, Nichele, and family, I had only met Michael once but he seemed like a very gentle, caring person. His love for his family was very obvious. Please know we are thinking of you all and if you need anything please call. Our hearts our open to you, With Love,  Michelle Shaub and Mike Eberle

Dear Loretta,
Please accept my sincere condolences of the death of your dear husband, Michael.  As you know, Michael and I worked together at the food service of Franklin and Marshall College.  We fished together at our home in Avalon.  He will be missed by his family and friends.

To Loretta, Scott, Fred, Betsy and Nicki,
I was so sorry to learn of the passing of Michael. Although I can’t be at the service, you are close in heart and mind. I remember him at F&M usually with a smile and a nice boss to work for. I remember how understanding he was as I talked to him in 1984 after I was mugged and how he encouraged me to go to the college counselor for help with my fears. You are and will be in my thoughts and prayers  and I can feel your pain as this is a trying time, I know as I lost my  mother in June. Please stay well. Love, Ellen and Mike Keller

Scott, Fred, Betsy and the Mike Oehrlein Family
I had not seen Mike for many years, but think often of the fun times as neighbors in Devola, OH.  I am sure he was quite proud of all of his children and grandchildren.  I am very sorry for your loss and will have you in my thoughts.

For Betsy, Freddie & Scott…  Please know that you are always in my heart and in my prayers.  I’m so sorry to hear about Mike.  I’ll always remember your Dad and all the great times we had in Devola growing up.  There are so many stories I could tell, but I don’t believe there is enough hours in the day.  Please know I am thinking about you always, especially you Bets!
Take care and love always, Natalie Russell Gray

Hi Loretta and family,
I had the privilege to work with Mike in Diane Keller’s office.  He keep me company many a convention when I would get a bit bored.  He also had a funny joke or a heart felt story to tell of his beloved children and grandkids.  He loved you guys so much and spoke of you often.  He told me you guys were the best part of him.
I admire his courage in his fight with cancer.  It is hard to believe it was just last convention when I saw him.  He will be missed by so many.  You and your family are in my prayers as you say your good-byes to Mike.  May the Lord carry you thru this time of loss.
Stacy McBride

From the moment I met Michael, I knew he was a fighter.  He vowed to not let his cancer keep him down.  No matter how bad he felt, he always had that unforgettable smile on his face.  You knew how much his family meant to him.  He was always telling us about his family, especially his grandchildren.  His face would light up at the mention of their names.  When he was asked to speak at his granddaughter’s school, he wanted nothing more than to finish his chemo treatment quickly so he could get there on time.  You could tell how much of an honor it was for him. He is now one of the angels in heaven, watching over all of us. Thank you for allowing me the honor of caring for Michael.  He will not be forgotten.

I will always remember Mike, with that wonderful smile, that was capture in the photo used with his obituary. Because I had to have a change of scene, and get away from my desk and work that was awaiting, I walked in the fresh air to the Faculty Dining-Room every day. I always sat by the door, so I was the first to be greeted with a cheery ‘Hi, Mary!’, from Mike. That smile was so infectious! I’m so sorry for your loss–he was taken way too early.
from Mary Choplosky, retired F&M Staff.

My deepest sympathies to the family of Michael Oehrlein.  My name is Rick Diana, a 1982 graduate of Franklin & Marshall College.  Coach Mike was my baseball coach for two years (1981 & 1982). A few weeks ago, my freshman daughter mentioned a "Mrs. Oehrlein", an English teacher at Mendham High School who graduated from F&M.  In my mind there "had to be" a connection somehow.  I had asked Christina to check things out.  However, being a very busy little student (she is not in Mrs. Oehrlein’s class), she hadn’t gotten around to the task.  But I did, and I’m so sorry for your loss.  I can only think fondly about Coach: all the road trips and doubleheaders, in those stinky vans, and his funny and frank cafeteria cracks—he never defended the "quality" of the food which made him a regular guy to me.  He was trusting and totally transparent.  Mike checked his ego at the door and was such a refreshing authority figure amidst the sometimes arrogant and snooty professors.  Although Coach Mike and I lost touch long ago (and I’m sorry we did), his contagious laughter and joyous personality will always be indelibly etched in my memories.  God Bless the Oehrlein Family.  God Bless the life of Michael Oehrlein, a truly wonderful man whose presence in my life made me that much richer.  As residents of Chester for sixteen years, I hope to meet Scott and Molly in the near future.
Sincerely, Rick
