Michael D. Hearn, 46

Michael David Hearn, 46, of 144 April Lane, Lancaster, died on Monday at the Essa Flory Hospice Center.

Mike was the husband of Debra A (Werst) Hearn and they just celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary on October 26th 2005. Born in Lancaster Mike was the son of Petronilla "Pat" (Mayer) Long and the late Charles Meade Hearn. 

Mike was employed for 32 years by Sir Speedy Printing of Lancaster where he started working at the age of 14. For thirty of those years he was the Bindery Supervisor.  Mike truly enjoyed his work. 

Mike joined the Neffsville Fire Company in 1975 at the age of 16. He worked his way up through the ranks 2nd Lieutenant to Captain to full Chief in 1985 to 1989 and again Chief in 1997 to 2005. Mike’s passion to serve the community and his dedication to the Fire Company earned him the distinguished award of Chief Emeritus this past Saturday at the company’s annual banquet. Mike was also on the Manheim Township Fire Council and was a Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshall assistant.

He was a 1977 graduate of Manheim Township High School and a member of Highland Presbyterian Church. Mike was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed bowling and shooting pool. He loved being with his family and sharing time together.

Surviving beside his wife and mother are a daughter, Nicollette D., and a son, Phillip M., both at home; Four sisters and a brother; Renee’ Todd, companion of Barry Kotler of Lancaster; Charles W. Hearn of Leola; Holly H. Hearn, life partner of Dennis van der Touw Altadena, CA; Phyllis Anne Huber, wife of Mitchel Holtwood; and Cathy L. Saylor, wife of Samual, Lancaster.

Funeral services will be held at Highland Presbyterian Church, 1801 Oregon Pike, on Friday at 12:30 p.m. A viewing will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m to 12:00 noon. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery Lancaster. Please omit flowers; memorials in Mike’s memory may be sent to the Neffsville Fire Company,  P.O. Box 5404, Lancaster, PA 17606 or Hospice of Lancaster County, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster PA 17604.

The Hearn family would like to thank everyone for all the support and love and acts of kindness given to them during Mike’s illness and a special thank you to the members of the Neffsville Fire Company family and Caruso’s.
