Michael Alan Heberlein, 47

August 03, 2013

Michael Alan Heberlein, 47, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully in the loving care of his family Saturday, August 3, 2013 in the home of his parents.

Born in Lancaster, he was the husband of Jenny L. (Van Aulen) Heberlein, and the son of Thomas H. and Joyce E. (Schmid) Heberlein, all of Lancaster.

Michael was a 1984 graduate of Manheim Township High School, and went on to graduate from St. Joseph’s Paramedic Institute, enabling him to serve others in his role as a Paramedic. He also earned a degree in Emergency Medicine Management from Drexel University.

He loved the outdoors, especially hiking and camping. An avid reader, he passed on that passion to pre-K students by volunteering to read to them. A loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and friend, he also loved animals and Walt Disney World.

In addition to his wife of 21 years and his parents, he is survived by his daughter Jessica A. Heberlein, at home; his brother Brian T. Heberlein and his wife Andrea; and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Monday, August 12, 2013 at Hamilton Park UCC, 1210 Maple Avenue, Lancaster, PA with Rev. Catherine Shiley officiating. The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 PM Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, and again one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery.

Condolences to the Family

Hi Jenny,
I read of your family’s loss on an email to the LCDS community from Eric Bondy.  My son, Carson, will be a junior at LCDS this year.  My heart goes out to you as you mourn the tragic death of your husband.  From his photo it looks like he was a fun loving, full of life sort of man.  If you would ever like to meet for coffee or to email me, I am available now or anytime in the future.  My husband also died from cancer at age 47 six years ago.
Sincere condolences to you and Jessica,

Jenny
I thought about you and Mike so many times- I know how he tried to remain physically present for you and his famiiy.
Sometimes the body simply gets exhausted and rest is needed. I know he will remain in your hearts forever. His spirit will be with you. Take time to grieve -it is necessary in the healing process.

I am saddened to hear of Mike’s passing.  It has been many years, but I still have many fond memories of my time with Mike back when we were both young teenagers.  He was a good friend.  We had some adventures I will never forget.  My condolences to his family.

So sorry!  Many happy memories of middle school days, with our gang running around our block together, dreaming of forming a band called Myst, camping out in the Heberlein and Ezard backyards.  Mike was always funny, always up for adventure.  I’m sorry for any suffering he endured and for the grief you all feel now.
With love, Andrea Brown

Jenny and Jessica,
I’m so sad to hear of your loss. He brightened my day anytime he stopped by my office; he was a good man who obviously loved both of you a ton! (and he was also a fun addition to all of the classrooms he entered!) I’ll be praying for you and your family.
