Merle D. Kilby, 82

Merle D. Kilby, 82, of Landis Homes, passed away on February 7, 2016. Born in Kennett Square, PA, he was the son of the late Ivan G. & Kathryn (Ulmer) Kilby. Merle was the husband of the late Joyce (Felker) Kilby who died October 2003.
A veteran, he served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Merle was a former member of Jerusalem Lutheran Church, Rothsville. He worked in the maintenance department for Sechan Electronics, Inc., Lititz. Merle was a “Jack-of-all-trades”, and was always willing to help people. He worked to rebuild a 1942 Pontiac and was a published poet. He was an avid Phillis Fan. He loved listing to Blue Grass music and attending Blue Grass Festivals. Merle loved spending time with his grandchildren. Merle enjoyed traveling with his late wife, Joyce, especially to Chincoteague Island to see the wild ponies.
Surviving is a daughter, Patti Jo Stripling; a son, James Scott Kilby, husband of Joann; a sister, Barbara Ann Zimmerman, wife of Bill; 4 grandchildren: Kala, Aaron, Keith & Kim; 5 great-grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews.
Merle was preceded in death by 2 siblings: Judy Buchter & Richard Kilby.
A viewing will be from 6-8 PM on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Landis Homes, East Bethany Chapel, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, PA 17543, and again on Friday, February 12 from 10-11 AM. A Funeral Service will begin at 11 AM. Merle will be laid to rest following the services at Rothsville Lutheran Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater PA Chapter, 2595 Interstate Dr., Suite 100, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or to Landis Homes, Caring Fund, 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz, PA 17543.
