Marjorie Magnuson, 91
May 11, 2020
Marjorie Magnuson, 91, died of natural causes, passing peacefully into the presence of the Lord on May 11, 2020 in Lancaster, PA.
Marge was born on April 23, 1929 in Wilton, NH to Charles and Jennie (Knight) Abbot. She lived at the Abbot family farm on Abbot Hill in Wilton and attended Wilton High School and the University of New Hampshire until 1948 when she married Joseph E. Magnuson.
She and Joe, along with their five children, lived in many places around the world, but they always came back to Cape Cod, MA. No matter where they lived, their home was always a welcome haven, and many found connection and hope there. For example, following 9/11 they provided a respite place for NYC firefighters and their families. To borrow the words of Andrée Seu, who found a warm welcome in their home, “[Marge] was the raiser of children, five by biology, though it was hard to tell where her progeny left off and the rest of mankind began.”
Marge was known for her love of gardening, her warm hospitality, and her wisdom. She had a heart to serve and minister to people, and her loving smile radiated Jesus Christ to the many who knew her.
Marge is survived by her sister Elinor Abbot, brother Stanley (Karen) Abbot, sons David (Becky) Magnuson and Peter Magnuson, and daughters Gail (John) Hutchinson and Carol (Phil) Wolgemuth. She was preceded in death by her husband Joe Magnuson, brother Charles Mack Abbot Jr., daughter Susan (Christoph) Hoffmann and great-grandson Skyler Hutchinson. She was blessed with 14 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. All who knew her were deeply touched by her love and godly example and will miss her greatly.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Calvary Fellowship Homes whose staff lovingly cared for her for many years in Lancaster, PA.
Calvary Fellowship Homes 502 Elizabeth Drive, Lancaster PA 17601.
A memorial service celebrating Marge’s life will be held on Cape Cod at a later date.

What a gracious lady passed through our lives: Marge. She had such a warm, welcoming way; willing to go out of HER way to meet needs she saw around her. Her granddaughters were so excited to be with her on Cape Cod that summer of ’93 – she even flew from Cape Cod to the NY airport to personallly escort them back with her to the Cape. She was so loved by family and friends and she even embraced our famiy – children and grandchildren – back in the ’90’s. She leaves a legacy of love. Warm hugs to Gail and all the family as we rejoice in the grand reunion she is experiencing.

Dear Gail, and John,
I am sorry for your loss, and at the same time as I read your mother’s obituary, I rejoice with you that she is at Home with Jesus, hearing His “Well done, good and faithful servant.” But we very naturally sorrow perhaps more especially at the loss of a parent. Your mother has been there since your very earliest memories, and you will miss her. May the Lord comfort you, the rest of the family, and bring you joy through the good memories. You may not remember me, but I met you through College Church in Northampton MA, and through Stony Brook Community Church in S. Hadley MA. I think you may have been in our home for a cup of tea and if I remember correctly, digestive biscuits. My husband Ralph and I were retired missionaries from Pakistan. He passed away in Oct. 2017. I follow your activities through John’s weekly emails. TGod’s special blessings at this difficult time, especially hard when you are unable to grieve and remember with your loved ones. Polly Brown

Although we were not privileged to know Marge, we have been blessed to know John and Gail Hutchinson and their family and to meet her siblings and even become part of the family as our son Jeremy married their daughter Sue last year. We pray God’s comfort and peace for all the family and friends who now grieve her absence in this world. And we rejoice with Marge in her promotion to the very presence of Jesus in Heaven. God bless you all. Mickey and Al Williams

Dear John and Gail and family,
Both Joe and Marg were great encourage to me as I was growing up at EBC in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s in my growth in the Lord. I was 10 years old when I first them. From the beginning I notice the warm love that they both have witj God. That made inpression to me to see that. It was great to know them.

Dear Gail & Family,
Bittersweet are farewells in our earthly life: bitter to no longer be able to greet the one we love; sweet in knowing the reunion has been promised. We pray God’s comfort for you all at this time.

Dear Gail and family, We never had the privilege of knowing your Mom, but it seems from what we read that she overflowed with the love of the Lord for all those whom she encountered. We pray that you will experience Jesus’ comfort and peace as you grieve her loss. We rejoice with you that you have the assurance of seeing her again one day.

My sympathies to the family, but rejoice with you that Marge is at home with her Savior. I have many great memories of Joe and Marge and the family, especially during their days in Osterville. My best wishes to all.
