Marjorie Daniels Tueche, 81

June 02, 2018

Marjorie Daniels Tueche’, beloved wife of Jerry Tueche’, passed away on June 2, 2018 at the Hospice Center in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania after a long battle with Cancer.

She was born on July 26, 1936 in Webster, Pennsylvania, located south of Pittsburgh along the east bank of the Monongahela River. A few years later her family moved across the river to Donora, the home of U.S. Steel’s world’s largest zinc plant.

She began her schooling at Saint Dominick’s parochial school in Donora where she excelled academically in grades one through eight. She was valedictorian of her graduating class and was honored to give the commencement address.

In 1954 she graduated from Donora High school in the top ten of her class of 160 students and received an award for outstanding scholastic achievement from the Donora Lions Club.

After graduation, she moved to New York City to live with her aunt and uncle in the Tribeca area. Her goal was to study aeronautical engineering, but all the doors were closed to women at that time. She enrolled in the Grace Downs Air Career School and upon graduation was hired by Capitol Air Lines as a flight attendant based at La Guardia airport.

This was a happy time for her. She loved flying on the new Vickers Viscount planes, meeting and interacting with movie stars, celebrities and other interesting people.

Then tragedy struck when, at only 42 years old, her mother had developed cancer. Margie resigned from Capital Airlines and returned home to the small family farm to care for her mother during her last days.

Margie and her father decided to sell the farm and build a new home. She made an appointment with Jerry Tueche’, one of the salesmen at Keystone Homes of Belle Vernon. When she arrived, all the sales staff thought she was Elizabeth Taylor! Grace Downs School had taught her how to look your best and Margie was so beautiful that Jerry was immediately smitten. After a whirlwind courtship, they were married on April 7, 1961. They honeymooned in New York City.

Margie and Jerry built a new home near Belle Vernon and on January 17, 1962 they were graced with the birth of their daughter, Michele, who soon became the love of their lives and brought them a wonderful sense of meaning and happiness.

In 1971 they moved to Camp Hill, Pennsylvania when Jerry took a position in state government. A few years later, Margie began her state government career with the Treasury Department, then a promotion to Agriculture, then on to the Commerce Department as an Administrative Officer, then the Department of State, and finally the PA Department of Auditor General. She retired after serving 25 years.

She served as Coordinator for the 1992 Voter Participation Program, assisted in the 1992 and 1994 state-wide Mock Election Programs, and served as Coordinator for the 1992 Pennsylvania Electoral College. The Secretary of the Commonwealth lauded her for the leadership role she played in carrying out the event.

Margie was elected for 4 terms as the Republican Committeewoman in Manheim Township’s first district.

As her body deteriorated she maintained a keen mind by becoming adept at solving crossword puzzles and loved watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

On April 7,2018 Margie and Jerry celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary by having a quiet dinner at her favorite restaurant with their daughter Michele and son-in-law Cameron Waite.

The week prior to her May 7th operation they hoped would preserve her life, Margie and Jerry went to another favorite restaurant. As they both knew this could be their last evening out together, they savored every moment.

Margie was known to her friends as a “tough cookie” for her courageous efforts in battling cancer and other ailments she had faced over the last 30 years. She fought hard and she had always won. This time the battle was too tough for her and as the cancer over-powered her, she was gone in less than four weeks.

Margie was blessed to have three wonderful grand-angels, whom she loved and adored. Although none of them lived close enough to be with her every day, holidays and special occasions were always wonderful times for her. Margie had beautiful memories to comfort her during her final hours.

She is survived by her husband Jerry Tueche’, daughter Michele Waite, granddaughter Taylor Kirsch, and grandsons Christian and Weston Mountz. They all affectionately called her Mema.

She was preceded in death by her brother David Daniels and her father Stephen Daniels and mother Margaret Krajnik Daniels.

The family is grateful for the cards and prayers for Margie and wish to thank the nursing staff at Lancaster General Hospital, the staff at Barshinger Cancer Center, and the staff at Pathways Center for Grief & Loss hospice facility in Mount Joy. A special thank you to Doctor Sailer at Lititz Family Medicine and Father O’Blaney, Pastor at Saint James Catholic Church.

Please try not to cry because she’s gone; instead let us be happy that she was here.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at St. James Catholic Church, 505 Woodcrest Ave, Lititz, PA 17543. Interment will be private. Family and friends will be received from 6-8PM on Friday, June 15, 2018 at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA and again from 10-11AM at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the church at the above address or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.
