Margaret “Pegge” S. Dean, 93

Margaret “Pegge” S. Dean, 93, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2013 in her residence at Woodcrest Villa, Lancaster, PA.  She was the wife of the late George Allen Dean, Jr., and the daughter of the late Joseph J. and Bessie B. Smith.

Raised in Ridgewood, NJ, following her marriage she and her family lived for many years in Allendale, NJ, moving to the Kansas City area in 1959 and last residing at Weatherby Lake.  Retirement took Pegge and George to St. Augustine, FL where Pegge remained following her husband’s death in 1995. After spending a few years living near grandchildren in Cartersville, GA, Pegge moved to Woodcrest Villa in 2007.

An Episcopalian, she was an active volunteer in her churches and communities in Allendale, the Kansas City area, and St. Augustine.  She loved music, knitting, and playing bridge. She did not miss her evening of bridge at Woodcrest on February 16.

She is survived by her children:  George A. Dean III and his wife Susan of Kansas City, MO; Paula D. Munson and her husband Robert of Lancaster; Barbara D. Davoren of Miriam, KS; and Thomas J. Dean and his wife Mary of St. Augustine, FL; ten grandchildren:  Debra Kuehn, Kristine Norris, Michael Weightman, David Weightman, George A. Dean IV, Rebecca Kloewer, John Dean, Jennifer Brubaker, Laura Hillerich, and Ryan Davoren; and twelve great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret J. Weightman.

A memorial service and burial will be at Trinity Episcopal Church in St. Augustine in April.  A memorial service will also be held at Woodcrest Villa at 2 PM on Thursday, February 28, 2013 in the Eagle Commons room in the Eagle Wing.

To the family of Pegge I send sincere sympathy. Pegge and I were volunters at Flagler Hospital and became coffee break buddies. I had lived in Spring Valley, NY. just over the border from NJ where she had lived.  I, along with her many friends in St. Augustine have missed her. It’s pleasing to know she was able to enjoy her bridge hobby to the very last.
She was a very sweet lady.
