Margaret A. Messina, 99

December 11, 2018

Margaret A. Messina, 99, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on, Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at Landis Homes Retirement Community in Lititz surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of the late Victor Messina with whom she shared 51 years of marriage.
Born in Hodgenville, KT she was a daughter of the late Virgil and Nannie (Wilcher) Morrison.
A loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Margaret adored her family and cherished the memories she shared with them. She was a spiritual person who believed in the good of all. She was gracious, kind, and with an infectious smile and sense of humor that could light up any room.
As the wife of a soldier, Margaret and her family moved all over the world with the U.S. Army. She took these opportunities to further her travels and had visited all countries in Western Europe and much of the United States, including many national parks. One of her favorite places to visit was Richmond, VA where she would spend time with her sister and nieces.
Margaret was an exceptional cook and a lover of words. She was an author of poems and short stories and would never turn down a good game of Scrabble. She gave generously of herself as a volunteer for the YMCA and in the thrift shops of many military bases, where they lived. She donated often to organizations including, the Humane League and to Clean Water for Africa. She will always be remembered by her family for her kind heart and gentle soul.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Hodge, wife of Andrew of Lancaster, Anne Flynn, wife of Frank of Lancaster; a son, Michael Messina, husband of Nicole of Lancaster; a sister, Loyce Craig of Richmond, VA, eight grandchildren and four nieces. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Leonard Morrison.

Services and burial are private.
