Marco T. Bonfitto, 93
April 02, 2017
Marco T. Bonfitto, 93, formerly of Oakhurst, NJ, passed away April 2, 2017 at his home in Lancaster, PA.
Born in Chester, PA, to Ciro and Palmerinda Bonfitto, Marco was one of three sons who served in the armed forces during World War II. After being discharged from the army with the rank of Sergeant, Marco attended the University of Delaware where he pursued his passions for mathematics and athletics.
Graduating with a BSEE in 1950, he began a 33 year career as a civilian electronic engineer, working at Fort Monmouth, NJ. It was there where he met his beloved wife of fifty-four years, Lucy Ann Walker, formerly of Garner, NC.
Marco was devoted to his family and was a very active member of the community, volunteering for the Meals on Wheels program, serving as a member of the Oakhurst Methodist Church, and holding the office of President for both the Ocean Township Senior Friendship Club and the local Chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Cultivating a life-long fascination with physics and all things scientific, Marco authored the Book Panorama of Science, and never stopped being curious about the workings of the universe. He also had a creative side, performing in shows, crafting sculptures and jewelry from telephone wire, and every Halloween, to the delight of his neighbors at both Seabrook Village in Tinton Falls, NJ, and later at Country Meadows Assisted Living Home, Marco donned hilarious costumes and handed out candy to visiting children.
Marco is predeceased by his wife, Lucy, his parents, his siblings Matthew, Amerigo, Victoria Olson and Cornelia Heller. He is survived by daughter Tresa Bonfitto Kirk and son-in-law David Kirk of Columbia, PA, daughter Lori Bonfitto and daughter-in-law Kimberly Brittingham of Ocean Grove, NJ, granddaughter, Erin Kirk and fiancé Scott Petosky, and grandsons Patrick Kirk and Sam Maliszewski.
Marco will be interred along-side his wife, Lucy in Lancaster, PA where they moved in 2013 after having been long-time residents of the Jersey shore.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 7, 2017 at 11AM from the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 441 N. George St. Millersville, PA 17551. Interment with military honors rendered by the Red Rose Honor Guard will be held in Millersville Mennonite Cemetery. A visitation with his family will be held from 10am until the time of his service at the funeral home.
