M. Joseph “Joe” Guarino, 73

December 02, 2013

Joseph “Joe” Guarino, 73, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2013.
He was the beloved husband of Judith A. Guarino, with whom he celebrated 49 years of marriage this past May. Born in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Charles Guarino and the late Angela Casciotta Guarino Comfort.
After high school, Joe served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Joe spent his career as an Optician, moving to Lancaster in 1966 with Berks Optical. Along with his beloved wife Judy, he founded Guarino Opticians in 1979. In 1994, Guarino Opticians was combined with Campus Eye Center and became Campus Opticians, where Joe worked until his retirement at the end of 2011. In his retirement, he worked part time with long-time friend, Dr. Justin Cappiello.
Joe’s family was the focus of his life. In addition to his wife, Judith, he is survived by his children: Joseph C. Guarino married to Jennifer (Harris) Guarino, of Hudson, OH, and Jennifer G. Tanceto, married to Rick Tancreto, of Dunkirk, MD. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Gabriel and Christian Guarino, and Carly Tancreto, who will miss their “Papa.”
In his free time, Joe enjoyed fine automobiles and was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Friends will be received on Friday, December 6, 2013 from 6-8PM at the Charles F. Snyder Jr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA. Friends may call again on Saturday, December 7, 2013 from 9-10AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 119 S. Prince St., Lancaster, PA, with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10AM. Condolences to the Family

Well Joe, said good bye to you today at your service and until we meet again I can say good job!  Your family done you proud!  Judy, Joe loved you very much and was very proud of the way you handled yourself through everything – even if we all did like to tease you a bit.  🙂  Jen and Joey – Your father was incredibley happy and proud of you both and your families – you have all done him proud!  We will be there standing with you to help you get through this.  On a last note – I hope your Dad doesn’t have to buzz the gate to get into heaven cause if he presses the button and it says speaks to him and says “Access Granted” like our gate did, Jesus will never hear the end of it from him!  LOL!  Remember the fun times!  Love you all!  Greg –

Dear Judy, Joe and Jenn,
Please accept our deepest condolences and sympathy for your loss. We can’t find the words that will make your path any easier in the days that follow other than the way that we will always think about Joe…his hearty and infectious laugh. No matter what the circumstances, he had the ability to connect with others and make us feel important.
So as you continue on without him, please think about him laughing and making all of us laugh also. As for me, whenever I go out to my back yard, I will hear him laughing as I celebrate his life.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
Joe & Diane

Judy,
We hadn’t seen Joe since seeing you both at the Ohio service plaza, until Nov.25, when Marge ordered a new pair of glasses. She needed a pair from someone who knew how to do the job right. We will miss him, not just from the professional standpoint, but from our many years of friendship. Love, Marge and George
