Louis William Jackubowski, 73

Louis William “LouJack” Jackubowski, 73, of Willow Street, departed his earthly life on Tuesday, January 31 at Lancaster General Hospital after being stricken ill at home. He had been under a physician’s care.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late William and Catherine Mushala Jackubowski. A graduate of Hanover Township High School in Wilkes-Barre, Lou was a former athlete and baseball pitcher who, for a short time, pitched in the minor leagues for teams affiliated with the St. Louis Cardinals. He attended the Wilkes-Barre campus of Penn State University, having earned credits towards and associates degree in drafting.

After serving in the US Army, he moved to Lancaster in 1959. He worked as a heating and cooling design specialist for the former Penn Boiler Co., Raub Supply Co., and in 1998, retired from Weinstein Supply Co. with 20 years service. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lancaster.

Family was the centerpiece in Lou’s life. He was a faithful husband to Jean Nizio Jackubowski. Together they celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on October 12th.

A devoted father, he is survived by his five children: Louis J.  husband of Mary M. Jackubowski of Lancaster,  Mary Jean  wife of Howard Ross of Holtwood,  Susan wife of Jeffrey Buzzard of Willow Street,  Sharon  wife of Brian Graeff of Reading, and Virginia  wife of Daniel Hornberger of Reading.  Lou also leaves behind 14 grandchildren ranging in age from 2 to 24. He is also survived by two brothers, Anthony Jackubowski of Wilkes-Barre, Theodore Jackubowski of Windermere FL, and two sisters, Mary C. Jackubowski of Lancaster and Albina Pasko of East Brunswick NJ. Preceeding him in death were three brothers, Wesley, Martin, and John Jackubowski and a sister, Vickie Underwood.

Friends will be received at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 414 E. King St., Lancaster on Friday from 6-8PM, with the recitation of the Rosary at 7:30PM. Friends will be received again on Saturday from 10-11AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 119 S. Prince St., Lancaster, PA 17603, with Mass to follow at 11AM. Interment in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Lou’s memory to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
