Louis Weisman, 84

Louis Weisman, 84, of Lancaster, died Saturday, January 6, 2007 at Hospice of Lancaster County after a brief illness.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Max and Katie Rubin Weisman. He was married to Gwen (Lestz) Weisman for 54 years.

A 1943 graduate of Franklin & Marshall College, he was a veteran of World War II where served three years in the U.S. Army as an MP. He graduated in 1950 from Albany Law School in Albany, NY. He opened his practice of law in Lancaster in 1951, practicing continually for 50 years, and retiring in 2001.

During his law career, Lou was active in the Lancaster Elks Lodge #134, Lancaster Kiwanis, American Legion  Post #34, B’nai B’rith and the Lancaster County Historical Society. He was a past president of the Young Republicans of Lancaster and past president of the Citizen’s Advisory Committee of the Children’s Bureau of Law. In addition, he served as president of the McCaskey  High School Chapter of the American Field Service and past president of the National Conference of Christians and Jews. He was also honored in 1978 by Temple Beth El as “Man of the Year”.

Louis was a lifetime member and a visionary of Temple Beth El and was recently honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

In addition to his wife, Louis is survived by three daughters: Joy Weisman Rosenthal; Melanie Weisman; and Amy Weisman; and three grandchildren: Adam, Elizabeth and Alexander Rosenthal of Wynnewood, PA; and five brothers, Irvin, Harry, Nathan, Herman and Samuel.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service from Temple Beth El, 1836 Rohrerstown Road, Lancaster, PA on Monday at 1:30 p.m. The family will receive relatives and friends at Temple Beth El from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Interment in Temple Beth El Cemetery, Lititz, PA. Shiva will be observed at the Alspach Community Room at Homestead Village, 1800 Village Circle, Lancaster, PA on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday night from 7-9PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Temple Beth El, or Hospice of Lancaster, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
