Leslie “Kit” Jo Frederick

February 14, 2018

Leslie “Kit” Jo Frederick, passed away on February 14, 2018 at Moravian Manor.

Kit was feisty and bold with an unmatched quick wit and a heart of gold for people close to her. Those that were fortunate to meet and know her would have a difficult time in forgetting her because an original like Kit stands out in any crowd. She will always be remembered for bringing smiles and laughter to everyone in her company. From Miss Naval Reserve in her early 20’s to a mother of 4 and stepmom of 3, Kit was the quintessential stay-at-home presence for half her life. Over the years, she enjoyed extended family trips to NJ, Sunday family dinners, coffee every morning and iced tea the rest of the day. She was a heckuva cook who kept many happily fed and whom continue to recreate her favorite dishes like spaghetti pie, Swiss steak, and turkey with all the trimmings today. Kit was a tough nut if you knew her, but that trait is what made her the person we love. She embodied the protective tenacity of a mother lion, the humor of Lucille Ball, and the sharp tongue of Mae West. As her children will all agree, the mold was broken when Kit came along. Her pippiness and unfiltered ways will fondly go on in all of us, and missing her will be a palpable loss in our hearts.

Kit will be unbelievably missed by her 6 children Phillip Heagy; Winfield Heagy, husband of Liz and father to Fei; Jacquelynn Brandsema, wife of Arjan and mother to Tessa, Katie, and Luke; Elizabeth Huyett, wife of Jesse and mother to Carson and Chase; Lori Frederick Biddle, and Lu Anne Leh, mother of Amber. As well, Kit is able to call countless people friends over her 80 years with us.

Kindly omit flowers and if you desire to give in honor of Kit, please support The Alzheimer’s Foundation or Moravian Manor’s Benevolent Fund. Services were held privately for the family to honor Kit’s wishes.

To Kit’s Family,
We’re saddened to read about Kit’s passing. We still consider it an honor to have purchased the Frederick home here on Spruce St., and treasure our time here.
We’re glad to have been in touch with her from time to time, either on Lemon Street or Moravian Manor. Her obituary was spot on!
Our door is always open, if at any time, you’d like to revisit your past home.
With Deepest Sympathy,
The Barnes Family

We are so sorry to hear that dear Kit has left us. My Mom and I have fond memories of Kit at Moravian Manor.  She enjoyed the “Ice Cream Club” we created during lunches in the Dining Room!  Her laughter and humor, her efforts to keep on going – these will hold our hearts as we grieve. May each of you, as her family & friends Always know that Kit brought rays of sunshine to the halls of Moravian Manor and to our hearts.  May our God bring each of you comfort & peace.

I am so very sorry to hear of your mom’s passing.
You nailed the obit!!!  I will fondly remember the many summer picnic get togethers at my sisters’.  Her acerbic wit, the stories she would tell……the hilarious stories,  and the roarous belly laughter she would evoke from everyone.  Never a dull moment when Kit was around.
Highly opinionated?  Yep!  And so well loved.
I will remember her…..Always.

My condolences to her family and her brother Mike. We all grew up together in Manheim and she shared her wit with her brother Mike. May you heart and mind be filled with fond memories of all the good family times you shared Mike. Prayers for peace and comfort Mike and for the rest of Kit’s family.

So sorry for the loss of your mother.  We spend many a good time together in our early years.  I lost my husband Reid her classmate the following day 15th. They were both at Moravian Manor.
You wrote a great profile for her.  She is probably up there laughing. She will be missed. Much love to you all.
