Leonard Joseph DeCarlo, 94

Leonard Joseph DeCarlo, 94, beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather, died at St Anne’s Retirement Community on Wednesday, April 2, 2008. Born in Port Chester, NY, he was the son of the late Vincenzo DeCarlo and Maria Giovanna Teleso DeCarlo.

A former resident of Enfield Drive in Lancaster, Leonard was married for 67 years to the late Antoinette M. Vaccaro DeCarlo, who died in April 2005.

Leonard began his career in the Production Control Department of the former Schick Electric, Inc. in Stamford, CT. He moved to PA with his family when Schick Electric relocated to Lancaster in April,1955. Leonard retired from Schick after 42 years of service. He was affectionately known a “Lenny” by coworkers and friends.

Leonard was an active member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Port Chester and St Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lancaster. Both in Port Chester and Lancaster, Leonard worked with church finance committees in support of their building and improvement plans. Leonard was a member of the choir of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Port Chester, Sacred Heart Church, and St. Anthony of Padua Church in Lancaster. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, the Miraculous Medal Association and the Italian-American Club. He was a family man who enjoyed being surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was an avid reader and cross-word puzzle enthusiast.

Leonard will be lovingly remembered by his children: Joanne wife of Wesley Snyder of Millersburg, PA and Carol  wife of Gary Kennedy of Strasburg; his 12 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and his two brothers: Daniel of Marlton, NJ and Salvatore of Port Chester, NY. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn Buckwalter, a grandson Karl Longenecker, three brothers: Anthony, Dominic, and William, and by two sisters: Kathryn DeCarlo and Carmella Lovallo.

Leonard’s family wishes to express their gratitude for the exceptional and compassionate care shown to their father and grandfather by the staff of St. Anne’s Retirement Community.

Friends will be received on Friday from 7-9PM at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 414 E. King St., Lancaster, PA and again on Saturday from 9-10AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30AM at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 501 E. Orange St. Lancaster, PA, with the Rev Daniel Mitzel as Celebrant. Interment in St Joseph New Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Leonard’s memory to St. Anne’s Retirement Community, 3952 Columbia Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603 or to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Dr. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
