Lawrence Forestiere, 90

Lawrence Forestiere, 90, of Lancaster, died on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Manor Care in Lancaster.

He was the husband of the late Rose T. Sportiello Forestiere, who passed away on January 15, 2011. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Rose Fuscho Forestiere.

Lawrence has worked for Tyco Industries on Long Island, NY for 30 years as a sheet metal worker, until his retirement in 1988. He had also previously worked as a mail carrier in New York City.

A talented artist, Lawrence was a published cartoonist. He loved to travel, had a passion for vocabulary and learning, and loved his wife Rose’s cooking. He was a member of the Lancaster Italian Cultural Society.  His greatest joy was his grandson, Daniel.

He was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Santa Maria Assembly Council 12532.

A US Navy veteran of World War II, Lawrence had served as a Motor Machinist’s Mate 2nd Class on a Minesweeper in the Pacific Theater.

Lawrence is survived by his daughter, Lorraine DiBernardo of Lancaster and his grandson, Daniel Lawrence DiBernardo. He was preceded in death by his two sons, Robert and Richard Forestiere, and his 7 siblings.

Friends will be received on Friday, February 4, 2011 from 3-4PM at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10 Delp Rd., Lancaster, PA 17601, with the Memorial Service to follow at 4PM, the Revs. Craig Ross and Jacquelyn Roderick officiating. Private interment in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery. Contributions may be made in Lawrence’s memory to St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
