Larry Paul Wixon, 83

July 25, 1938 - September 10, 2021

Larry Paul Wixon, 83, passed away at his Strasburg home with his loving wife Hope by his side on Friday, September 10, 2021. They celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage last May. Born in Reading, Larry was the son of the late Paul R. and Sara M. (Ott) Wixon.

He graduated from Muhlenberg Township High School, and entered the US Army serving with Company D 1st Brigade 3rd Infantry at Fort Myer, Virginia as a Specialist 3rd Class. Next, Larry earned his BA in secondary education from Kutztown College. Larry taught 8th grade math in Somerset, NJ, and then taught in Governor Mifflin School District in PA.

Changing careers, Larry graduated from the PA State Police Academy in 1965 and worked as a Trooper until 1991. He served as a Corporal and was stationed at eight different barracks throughout PA, ending with Troop J in Lancaster. After retiring from the State Police, Larry worked for Meadowbrook Trailer Sales in Paradise, and then for Manheim Auto Auction until 2012 doing accident investigations and reports.

Larry was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Strasburg. Having a lifelong love for cars, Larry purchased his first Corvette in 1964. As a charter member he served two terms as President of Skyline Drive Corvette Club from 1969 to 1971.

Larry deeply loved his family and extended family, and he was always active with his three grandchildren. He thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, his neighbors, and deer hunting at the family cabin in Sullivan County.

In addition to his wife, Hope (Phillips) Wixon, Larry is survived by their son, Allen B. Wixon, husband of Tabatha (Fahnestock) of Leola; daughter, Alicia W. Vroman, wife of Troy of Lebanon; three grandchildren, Troy Vroman, Jr., Marissa Wixon, and Talia Vroman; his brother, Lee D. Wixon, Sr., husband of Sandra (Bibbus) of Muhlenberg; and his sister-in-law, Rebecca Wixon-Stoyer. Larry was preceded in death by his brother, LaMarr Wixon and two nephews, Michael Carmelo and Bryan Wixon.

A viewing will take place 5 to 7 PM, followed by a celebration of Larry’s life at 7 PM on Thursday, September 16, 2021, at the Bachman Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 7 South Decatur Street, Strasburg, PA. Larry’s family requests that you wear casual attire, and facemasks are required. Private graveside services will take place in Charles Evans Cemetery, Reading.

Please omit flowers and kindly consider a contribution in Larry’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
