Kiriakoula (Koula) Manis

Kyriakoula (Koula) Manis, born  November 15, 1912, passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at Brethren Village Retirement Community where she had resided since November 1, 2004. Prior to that she lived with her daughter, Irene, and son-in-law, John Beake, at 920 Janet Avenue, Lancaster, PA, and 29 East Liberty Street, Lancaster, PA.

Born in Chios, Greece, she was the daughter of the late Angerou and Panayiote Galanos. Her husband, Gust Manis, passed away on January 6, 1971.

Koula and Gust operated a restaurant, Economy Lunch, at the corner of Lime and Walnut Streets from 1949 until the time of her husband’s death in 1971. She was a member of Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, the St. George Sycousis Society, and the Philoptocos Society of the Church.

She is survived by daughter, Irene M., wife of John Beake of Lancaster; son, George J. Manis, husband of Linda Manis, Milton, DE; three step-grandchildren: Bruce, husband of Julie Vitz; Barry, husband of Terry Vitz; and Emily, wife of David Eskay; five step-great-grandchildren; two nieces: Angela, wife of Fotis Tsirigotis, Lancaster; and Irene, wife of Anthony Stefanios, Arlington, VA; and two nephews: Kosta, husband of Diamanto Monis, Arlington, VA and Nicholas, husband of Amalia Monis, Arlington, VA. Also surviving are two Godchildren: Dr. Kathy Flouras, Alliance, OH, and Nicholas Flouras, North Augusta, SC. Her sister, Markela and twin brother, Mihali, predeceased her in Greece.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of Brethren Village for the wonderful loving care and concern they showed for Koula Manis for over three years.

Friends and relatives are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service from the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Ave. Lancaster, PA 17602 on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Father Alexander Goussetis officiating. There will be a viewing at the church from 1:30-2:00 p.m. Interment in Lancaster Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Philoptocos Society or Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, both at the above address, or to Brethren Village Good Samaritan Fund, Attn: Development Dept., 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, PA 17606-5093.
