Karen L. Hennessey, 57

June 03, 2023

Karen L. Hennessey passed peacefully in her sleep on June 3, 2023, at 3 AM.

Born in Lancaster, PA she was the daughter of the late Patricia S. Snyder and Leroy M Spade.

Karen is loved deeply by her family and is survived by her children, Richard Hennessey III, Sean Hennessey, husband of April, and Kathleen Nguyen, wife of Kevin. She especially loved her grandson, Caspian Hennessey.

Also survived by her favorite sister Laurie Cantey, brother-in-law Bryan, and niece Hannah (Miss B). Karen is preceded in death by her parents Leroy M. Spade and Patricia S. Snyder.

She devoted 39 years of her life to a career in nursing, where she obtained a master’s degree and specialized in wound care and ostomy.

She remains a beacon of light, inspiration, and hope for her entire AA community in which she proudly celebrated 26 years of sobriety this past April.

Those close to her knew that she was a constant ray of sunshine. She loved to drive fast, was known for her many hats, enjoyed being in nature, and for her love of plants.

She was dancing and smiling up until her last moments. Her constant faith in God was an inspiration as she battled brain cancer for 18 months.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at the Charles F. Snyder III Funeral Home and Crematory, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, PA, 17584. Family and friends will be received from 10AM until the time of service. Interment will follow at New Providence Mennonite Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Karen’s name to Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute 2102 Harrisburg Pike Lancaster, PA 17601.

I worked with Karen for years at Select Specialty hospital.  She was a wonderful leader to us and she was a true patient advocate. I enjoyed our talks and laughter immensely.  Her unit ran exactly the way it should when she was charge nurse.  I will hold on to all your advice and the caring words you have exchanged with me. Thank you for bringing your beautiful light to this world. I will miss you beautiful!! . Love u. Your friend Reagan.

My deepest sympathy go out to my brother Rick, and their kids Ricky, Sean & Kathleen.  I’m so sorry for your loss.  I will remember Karen fondly, she was a great sister in law.  The pictorial you all put together was absolutely amazing.  I am so sorry we lost contact…  sending love to you all – keeping you all in my daily prayers.

My wonderful Cousin! I will always cherish the memories of us as kids and teenagers, wether it was just goofing in someones yard, or listening to music, or down at the bay on the water, you were always a kindred spirit and an inspiration! May your selfless and thoughtful ways live on in your children, and all of the others whose lives you have touched. In some way, I hope we can all spread some joy in the lives of others by the example that you set while you were here. My deepest condolences to her children.

I’ve known Karen since our days at Select Specialty in York. She was charge nurse and then quality nurse. One day she asked me how to go about being a CWOCN and I was thrilled to fill her in! We would sometimes sit and talk and laugh so hard. She really was a ray of sunshine. I know she is perched on high with my other angels in heaven.

Karen managed our Inpatient Wound & Ostomy Team and was a pleasure to work with! She always had such a kind energetic spirit and the staff and patients always appreciated her way of caring with laughter! In her words, “Don’t be a sore oozer”! Heaven gained a spirited angel! Lori Parker

God has another angel.  Karen.  She is there with her Savior feeling relieved, happy and loved.  The unconditional love with God and her family members is unbelievable.  What she couldn’t  do here Karen’s doing there.  Dancing among lilacs with her family.
Thank you for being our friend sweet girl.
Love you always.

Karen and I were co workers at Select. (The unit was always in good hands when she was in charge.)We had a few things in common when we worked; we were the 2 nurses who wore glasses, had a first initial of K and we both had red hair. Thinking of her makes me smile and the thought of her with Jesus makes my heart dance. I know her children will miss her immensely.  Kathleen Dolphin
