Julia Rachel Flood

October 13, 2016

Julia Rachel Flood, the best sister, daughter, and friend that anyone could hope to have, died of a heroin overdose on Thursday October 13th, at home. Julia was a 2008 graduate of Lancaster Country Day School. She attended Millersville University and HACC, and worked in various retail jobs in the Lancaster Area.

Julia was very intelligent and possessed many skills and abilities. She loved painting and drawing and she was a talented pianist. Her family frequently relied on her computer skills to keep everything running!

Julia will be remembered as a kind and gentle person; she had a loving heart and a generous spirit, as well as a wonderful sense of humor. She will be greatly missed by friends and family.

She is survived by her parents Christina Hilsee and Michael Flood and her brothers Isaac Flood, at home, and Conor Flood, New Orleans, as well as several aunts and uncles and cousins.

A Celebration of Julia’s Life will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543 with Rev. Dale W. Marx officiating. Friends and family will be received from 6-8PM on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the funeral home and again from 10-11AM at the funeral home on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Julia’s memory may be made to Grace House, a sober living house for women P.O. Box 601, Adamstown, PA, 19501.

Dear Tina and Family,  we just heard about Julia passing.  So very sorry. We didn’t get to know her very well but the little we did, she was so kind and gracious.  We talked about having the same Fitbit.  I am truly in shock as I am sure you are.  We know what you are going thru as I lose my son, Bobby, the same way (opioids).  No words at this time will be consoling but knowing that she is in a better place, can bring ease to u. In my case, I didn’t have to worry my self sick just thinking where and what and whom he was with.  Peace to you and your family. God Bless.  Angie and Bob Giampietro

My deepest condolences to you all.  I’m sure the pain of Julia’s loss is truly indescribable.  No doubt, there is a hole in your hearts, but time and prayer will certainly heal you.  Trust in God that He has a plan.  Her addiction is over and she is safely home with Jesus.  He is in control.   He rescued her, and will comfort you with peace, love and strength.  You will all remain in my prayers……Phil Baldassari

On October 16, the newspaper ran an obit for Julia Rachel Flood.  I did not know her and I do not know the family.  But I thought it was a true act of kindness and bravery for the family to disclose that she died from a heroin overdose. By revealing that tragedy, her family may save another life.  Maybe someone who read her obit will wake up to the dangers of addiction.

Please convey my sentiments to the family.

Dear Dr. Flood and Family,
Please accept our family’s most sincere sympathy during this time of great loss.  I know your beautiful daughter will be missed and our hearts go out to you and your entire family.  Although you and I have never met, you were always so kind to my father and mother, Harold and Nancy Barley.  As you probably remember, he was the farmer who farmed the fields in your area.  Dad always spoke very highly of you.  I wanted you to know we care and are deeply saddened by your loss of this precious loved one.  May God bless you with peace, many wonderful memories and the courage to face the upcoming days.
Most Sincerely,

My Dear Ones,  We grieve with you over this BIG loss……..  And certainly wish you God’s wonderful Grace and peace now and in the days to come.  Sara was all broken up this morning when she told me.    You all have been so special to her and us too.  Oh but we say Where is God when things are so hard.   He is on His Throne watching over His Children and knows all our heartaches.  We KNOW He could have avoided this and healed her broken body.  But for whatever reason He chose to allow this……..  He tells us in His word that He works ALL things together for the good of those who love Him,  and will one day wipe away all our tears.   So take heart dear ones and lean on His Everlasting arms.    We love you and pray for you all,  Sara’s Mom… Anna

May you also find some comfort in knowing that “God is near to those who are broken hearted and crushed in spirit” (Psalms 34:18). Please accept my sincere condolences at this sad time.  L. Morgans

October 18, 2016

Dr. Flood, Tina, Isaac, & my Dear Conor,
My heart breaks for all of you. I am so very sorry for your tremendous loss. The amount of courage it took for you to announce the reason for Julia’s early death will serve as a wake up call to many in our community.  Many people reached out to me when they read her obituary who did not know Julia, but knew that I had worked at LCDS.  They all responded with heartfelt empathy and pain as they watch their children and relatives suffer through this horrible addiction. Your incredible strength has touched those you don’t know, but wanted to impact.  There are no words I can say to heal you.  You are in my thoughts daily.  I am so very sorry.

I loved julia for the wonderful person she was ever since the day she introduced herself. I always told her how wonderful and beautiful she was but she always modestly disagreed. She had her own stresses but no matter what I always saw her for what she was and is, an angel.

Michael and Julia, Isaac and Connor, my heart breaks for you. I am so sorry you lost Julia, when hope was coming your way. I am so proud of you for naming the cause of her death, the disease that claimed her. That took abundant courage, and I hope people recognize the importance of this disclosure to all of us. The disclosure is but a side note to the sorrow you feel now. Please know that those of us who knew Julia are feeling it with you. I hope that you are blessed by those who walk with you, and hold you in our hearts.

I didn’t know Julia & don’t know your family, but thank you for sharing your heartbreak. The heroin epidemic is truly taking a toll on our youth. I hope you have sought out support with other families dealing with this awful pain. Please continue to share so more people realize this is a problem with “normal” kids.
Again, thank you. I am so sorry for your loss.
