Joseph T. Fallan, 85

Joseph T. Fallan, 85, died peacefully on Sunday night at the Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center, Lititz. He was the beloved husband of Ann Sheridan Fallan to whom he was married for 62 years in November. Joe was born in Mahanoy City, the youngest of eleven children of Thomas and Bridget (Reardon) Fallan.

Joe graduated from Mahanoy Area High School and served in the Navy during World War II. He moved to Lancaster in 1949 to work for Armstrong, working at both the floor plant and the carpet plant in Marietta, retiring as General Production Supervisor in 1989.

After retirement, Joe and Ann enjoyed traveling and playing golf at Olde Hickory. Joe’s goal was to see every state in the contiguous United States by car, a goal he proudly accomplished. Joe returned from each trip delightedly recounting details, failing to ever mention any of his misadventures that resulted from his poor sense of direction, until those mishaps were inevitably disclosed by Ann. These were wonderful years for Joe and Ann as they traveled and socialized with their friends. Joe will be remembered by all who knew him for his quick wit, his willingness to help anyone, and his deep faith. He and Ann were members of St. John Neumann Church in Lancaster.

Joe and Ann moved to Brethren Village several years ago and for the last six months he was lovingly cared for by the staff of the Courtyards. They became his second family, enjoying his sense of humor and his Irish charm. Dawn, Jean, Sue, Amber, Devon, Denita, and so many others lovingly cared for him and embraced Ann, his wife, when she came daily to visit Joe. Jean dubbed him “Dennis the Menace” and he made every effort to live up to the name.

Family was most important to Joe and he was happiest when surrounded by his wife, his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Ann, his daughter Joanne, wife of Bob Freund, and Patrick, husband of Diane (Brubaker) Fallan, and his four grandchildren, Kelly Freund, Katie Fallan, Jason Fallan, and Andrew, married to Brytnee (Wright) Fallan. He always looked forward to traveling home to Mahanoy City and being with the extended “clan.” He is also survived by his sister, Rose (Fallan) Lotwick, whom he greatly cherished, and numerous nieces and nephews who will miss their “Uncle Joe.”

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 East Delp Road, Lancaster, PA 17601, with Rev. Michael Letteer as Celebrant.  A viewing will be held from 11:30-1 PM at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543.  Interment will be at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery, Bausman.  To send the family online condolences, please visit SnyderFuneralHome.com. Hey guys, I just have to say how sorry I am for your loss!!!  I will miss Joe deeply!  What am I suppose to do now without having Joe scaring me out of my wits by doing a little dance as he’s walking toward my cart?  Or how he purposely stands up just to make his chair sing "it’s a small world."  Oh and my favorite….how he would act like his legs gave out as he’s walking by my cart with one of the CNA’s.  I think of him and you guys as part of our family!  With all the obstacles Joe was faced, he could NEVER forget when the Italian was working….know why…….because he knew he would be working too!!!  Working on the next practical joke he would deliver to me!  It is an honor to have taken care of such a wonderful man that cared so much for his family!  Please contact me if there is anything you need!  Joe will be missed deeply!

Sincerely,
Devon M. Forsythe, LPN CRN

Joanne, Patrick, I am very sorry to hear about your Dad’s passing. He had a big influence on me. He was always there to listen, give advice and help any way he could. I could talk to him a lot easier than I could my own Father. He always had time for you and if you were thirsty he had a cold 16oz Rheingold beer for you. You wrote an excellent obit and it gave me a chuckle to hear his nickname was Dennis the Mennis. Remembering the stories that Aunt Rose would tell at the Family reunions they were very similar to the ones she would tell about Joe. It was honor knowing him.

Tony Schneider.

Joanne, I am so sorry about the loss of your dad. Sounds like you (and he) all made sure he had great care at the home. Take care–I think of you back in 7th & 8th grade in particular!  Julie Bucher (now in Gretna)
