Joseph P. Kelly, 88

Joseph P. Kelly, 88, of Lancaster, died Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Hospice of Lancaster County in Mount Joy. He was the husband of the late Jane Kendig Kelly who died in 2008.

Born in Philadelphia and raised in Atlantic City, NJ, Joe was the son of the late Francis and Alice Mullen Kelly. He graduated from Holy Spirit High School in Atlantic City in 1939 and then from La Salle University in 1955. Joe was an account executive for classified advertising at Lancaster Newspapers for 29 years, and then he enjoyed working at the PA Dutch Visitors Center in Greenfield for 12 years.

A proud veteran of the US Army, Joe served in North Africa and Italy during World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post #34, Lancaster. He was an avid Philadelphia Fliers and Phillies fan. Joe belonged to St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and traveling to the South Jersey shore.

Joe is survived by 2 children, Maureen Kelly-Thompson, wife of Kenneth Thompson, Freemont, CA and Mark J., husband of Glenda J. Kelly, Elizabethtown, a granddaughter Erin and a grandson Catlin and 2 siblings, Alice Narbutis, Forked River, NJ and Bernard, husband of Phyllis Kelly, Wilmington, DE. His brothers William and Donald Kelly preceded Joe in death.

A Viewing will be held Thursday, November 11, 2010 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM, followed by the Funeral at 10:30 am at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 441 N. George St., Millersville, PA. The Rev. Mark E. Weiss will officiate. Interment in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery with Military honors accorded by the Red Rose veterans Honor Guard.
