Joseph ‘Joe’ A. Fox, 89

August 09, 2017

Joseph ‘Joe’ A. Fox (Lancaster, PA), 89, passed away in the early morning of August 9th with much love lifting him up and shortly after celebrating his 89th birthday with words and visits from friends and family.

Joe was born in the Bronx, NY on August 6, 1928, son of Joseph and Emma (Reinhardt) Fox. He served in the United States Army and attended Fordham University. Joe spent over 50 years in the insurance business, working for Ohio State Life and later establishing Fox and Associates. He was a Fourth Degree Knight member of the Knights of Columbus and the Alhambra. He married Joan (Schoop) in September 1960. Through his last day, he carried in his wallet a piece of paper on which he had written the date of his first date with Joan and their wedding day. Together, they raised their family. Joe was most proud of being a good provider for his family and having a welcoming home.

He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Jean (Nolan). He leaves behind wonderful memories to be talked about and celebrated by his wife, Joan; son Brian P. Fox and daughter-in-law, Jamie and their children Spencer and Meredith (of Cochranville); son Joseph B. (Joe) Fox and his daughter, EmmaJoan (of Lancaster); daughter Maureen K. Fox and son-in-law Paul French and their daughters Maddie Kate, Molly, and Bridget; his sister, Lillian Lewis; loving nieces and nephews; and countless friends and family members.

Joe and Joan have been longtime members of St. John Neumann Catholic Church.

A small, private service will be held at 12PM on Saturday, August 12th 2017 at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, PA 17543. Friends and family will be received from 11AM to 12PM. The family will host a Celebration of Life gathering for extended family and friends at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s memory to Boys Town, Kindred Hospice, 1860 Charter Lane Suite 106, Lancaster PA 17601, Atglen Public Library, PO Box 190, 413 Valley Avenue, Atglen, PA 19310, or Literacy Council of Lancaster-Lebanon. Listening to some good jazz or Irish music, eating a real black and white cookie, or playing a good round of golf or hand of poker in his memory would also be appreciated.

It is with much sadness that we learned of Joe’s unexpected passing.  He was a man of great honor, family values and faith.  He practiced his beliefs in the way he lived his life.  He was so proud of his family and had the right to be …he and Joan did a phenomenal job parenting their children.  We are  so happy that Joe passed through our lives and we were privileged in knowing him.  He was connected to our family through marriage but will remain in our hearts forever as a true friend.  Rest in peace gentle man.  Sincere sympathies and love to Joan, Brian, Joe, Jr. and Maureen and your families.
