Joseph A. Hostler, 51

January 22, 2018

Joseph A. Hostler, of Lititz, PA passed away suddenly from a heart attack in Orlando, FL on January 22, 2018 at the age of 51. He was born in Grand Island, NE. His parents are Frank Hostler and the late Sherry Semones Hostler.
A 1984 graduate of Grand Island High School, Joe (“Hoss”) Hostler was the Nebraska state heavyweight wrestling champion (’84) and was invited to the Olympic Trials. While attending high school, he was an offensive lineman for the Islanders football team and served as Class President. Joe earned his BA in Political Economy from New Mexico State University (Las Cruces, NM), where he played football for the Aggies (left tackle) on a football scholarship. He was a Sigma Pi fraternity brother. In between his undergraduate and graduate studies, Joe served in the Peace Corps where he spent two years as a volunteer in Ecuador teaching agricultural development and putting his years of Nebraska farm life to work. Later, he received his International MBA from the Thunderbird School of Global Management (Phoenix, AZ). In his professional life, Joe managed the Latin American Region and the UK/Ireland for many companies, primarily in the flooring and building products industries. He worked for Armstrong, Stonehard, BASF, and Keene Building Products.
Joe was an avid photographer, he spoke five languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, and French), and traveled to 52 countries. He and his wife, Lisa, met in New Orleans in 1994 and married in 1996. Through their adventures, they lived in three countries and three states. Photography, cooking, travel, and writing were his passions. Joe will be remembered by those who knew him as a devoted family man with a zest for adventure. His stature commanded attention, but it was his wit and humor that held an audience. He was a giant of a man, but a teddy bear at heart. He enjoyed classic movies, sci-fi and loved to bake sweets. He was always very content to hike the Lancaster County Conservancy properties to photograph nature. He had a tremendous memory and could tell a good story. He could make us laugh- even to the end.
Joe is survived by his wife of 22 years, Lisa Schluckbier Hostler; his daughter Chelsea Hostler (Martin Sutton); his daughter Yvonne Hostler (Cory Brinker); and a grandson on the way. His father Frank Hostler (Sharon), Sisters Jennifer Hostler, Janet (Mike) Courtney, and brother James (Twila) Hostler. Brothers-in-law Jack (late Elma) Schluckbier, Guy Schluckbier, and Don Schluckbier. Mother-in-law Vickie (Sam) Frontiera. Many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral service that will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at 1:30PM at Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Viewing will be held Saturday evening at Snyder’s from 6PM-9PM and again Sunday from 12:30PM-1:30PM. Interment will be in Manheim Fairview Cemetery followed by a luncheon at The Emerald Foundation on Oregon Pike. Family and friends are invited to attend both the interment and the luncheon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CASA of Lancaster County, 53 N. Duke Street, #218, Lancaster, PA 17602.

To my shock I’ve just discovered that Joe died 3 years ago. I worked with Joe during his time at Bruce Hardwood Floors in the UK. I’ve always remembered Joe with fond respectful memories due to his unique style of managment which brought an enthusiasm and energy to the whole business. I can honestly say that I have never enjoyed any of my career as much as I did when working with Joe. RIP big fella. XX

Lisa,  I am so sorry for the loss of our great big loving friend.  In life there are few that one can say are true friends, perhaps only a hand full. Joe was that to me. Through the many bright and dark hours of life we shared our thoughts.  I am sure that those who loved him were blindsided by his passing, not least of all myself. There is nothing I can say that will lessen your feeling of loss of such a fine friend and mate.  Bonnie and I pass our sincere condolances along to you and the girls.  May he rest in peace.

Words can not express my feelings for the lost of such an amazing husband, Father, and friend! His Time here reflects his love for his amazing wife and daughters who he cherished more than anything…they will always be his greatest achievements in life. It was a pleasure to meet Joe after a years of being best friends/ college friends with his daughter Chelsea. Whom my heart breaks for tremendously for her unborn baby boy ( his first grandson). Today should not be a sad day but, and only a joyous day! Joe would have wanted it this way I am sure…because his family still have so much to live and breath for…the birth of his grandson. My family and I are sending you much prayer and strength during this very difficult time from Florida. We know joes radiant smile will be upon Lisa and the girls lives for the rest of there lives. We love you!
