I am so sorry to hear of Jon’s death and for the intense grief you are experiencing.  As Jon’s professor at Penn College, I only got to know him briefly, but I am so glad I did.  He always brought such a great attitude with him.  He made many friends very quickly and will certainly be missed.  I will miss the opportunity to get to know him better.  I pray for you, that God’s peace would be very real in your lives at this time.

Dear Family of Jon-
My deepest sympathy to all of you during this time of loss. My son, John Black, is a friend of your Jon, and my heart has broken for all of you over the past days. I have watched as many of his friends have tried to understand and cope with a loss that they are feeling so deeply. Yesterday after the service many of these young men were at my house. Some of the guys I knew and some I was meeting for the first time. They shared with me that they had thought about sharing some memories of your boy during the service, but, they just weren’t sure if goofy/funny stories would be OK. They had me laughing as they talked about times spent with Jon. As I listened to them it became crystal clear that their friendship with Jon meant so much to each one of them. I told them that it was so good that they were remembering him with laughter and to talk about him often. I explained that this is how you honor the memory of someone who brought so much laughter and joy into your lives. I wanted to share this with you, because, I felt it was important for you to know that each one of the young men who were at yesterday’s service wanted to share, but, they are still so young and didn’t know quite what to do. They loved your Jon so much and I know that it will take some time to mend the broken heartedness that they feel. Our thoughts and prayers are with you each and every day. Words sound so empty at a time like this, but, we hope that you find comfort in knowing that his friends loved him, laughed with him and found joy in the friendships that they shared with him.
Love and Prayers To All of you-

Tom, Mary and family,
My heart aches for you. I am so sorry for your loss. I want you to know I have such fond memories of your son playing with my son Dillon when they were little. He had a great laugh and smile. Only God knows why these things happen. But be assured you will meet up with Jon again. He is one of God’s angels now. He will forever be in your hearts and the hearts of many others. Bless you.
