John R. Schreiner, 93

John R. Schreiner, 93, passed away Friday, March 27, 2015 at Luther Acres.
He was the husband of the late Etta M. Ayers Schreiner, a well-known Lancaster County artist, who passed away on August 29, 2014. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late John S. and Carrie Elliot Schreiner.
A Penn State University graduate, John had worked as a mechanical engineer for the Carrier Corporation in Syracuse, NY, retiring after 35 years of service.
He was a decorated US Marine Corps veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, serving as a pilot of cargo and twin-engined bomber aircraft. His service in the Pacific in World War II saw him supplying ground forces in the China Burma Theater while flying C-47s and during the occupation of Japan. He was promoted to Captain during Korea, where he flew bombing missions against Communist forces, being the recipient of the Purple Heart among other many awards.
John is survived by his daughter-in-law, Lucille Schreiner of Baldwinsville, NY. He was preceded in death by his son, John Alan Schreiner.
Graveside funeral services with full military honors will be held at 10AM on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Friends wishing to be present to honor John’s service and memory may gather at the Charles F. Snyder Jr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA on Thursday with departure for the cemetery scheduled for 845AM.
