John M. Fanale, 91

John M. Fanale, age 91, passed away unexpectedly on November 15, 2018. John was born on January 11, 1927 in Altoona, PA. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, known as Pop-Pop. John was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Lancaster.

He was a 1944 graduate of Altoona High School and enlisted in the Navy in December 1944 and attended their Radio Technician classes and served as a Petty Officer Second Class aboard the USS Tollberg APD 103.

After he was discharged from the Navy, he attended Penn State University and received his degree as an Industrial Engineer in 1950. He was a PA Registered Professional Engineer.

After his graduation, he was employed by Radio Corporation of America (RCA) and enjoyed a 37-year career with them. In 1950 he was privileged to be employed as a Manufacturing Engineer in the original manufacturing group to produce Color Picture Tubes.

After several promotions he served as Plant Manager of the RCA Picture Tube Plant in Dunmore, PA; Plant Manager of the Color Picture Tube Glass Plant in Circleville, Ohio, Director of the Color Picture Component Plants in Lancaster, PA, Juncos, Puerto Rico, and Barcelonetta, Puerto Rico. Technical Service for Belo Horizonte, Brazil and Mexico City, Mexico. He retired as a GE employee after they purchased RCA.

John enjoyed golfing, bowling, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, playing with his Golden Retriever grand-puppies (The Snick and Mario), and vacationing in Florida during the winter months. He was a charter and life member of the American Legion Post 0827 of Altoona and a life member of the Elks Lodge 695 of Mahanoy City, PA.

He was the proud son of the late John and Angelina Favoccai Fanale. He also loved and was proud of his wife and family. John and his wife Christine were married 60 years on May 10. Surviving are three daughters: Mary Anne of Lancaster, Kathleen, married to Dave Cherrington of Brownstown, and Tina married to Michael Stump of Newtown, PA. Pop-Pop loved his grandchildren John and Brian Cherrington, Daniel Sweigart, Bobby and Kelly Peters. Also surviving are two sisters Janice married to Ted McKillip and Anna married to Paul Balestino. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bernard and his wife Margaret, and his sister Nancy married to Lou Bravin.

Family and friends will be received from 6 to 7:30PM, Monday, November 19, 2018 at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. The Holy Rosary will begin at 7:30PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM with Rev. Michael Culkin as Celebrant, Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 558 W. Walnut St., Lancaster, PA 17603. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10AM at the church. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in John’s name may be made to Sacred Heart Church or to Sacred Heart of Jesus School, 235 Nevin St., Lancaster, PA 17603.
