John Hurley, 55

January 11, 2020

John Hurley, 55, of Lancaster, passed away on January 11, 2020 at UPMC Pinnacle after a short battle with cancer. Born and raised in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Peggy (Souders) Armstrong and the late Hugh Armstrong. He is survived by his wife, Susan (Leister) Hurley, his brothers Larry S. Hurley (Donna), Robert Hurley (Anne), and Matt Armstrong (Stacy), and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Owner and operator of JSH Home Improvements LLC and was employed as a property manager for James Street Housing. John was hardworking, well-respected, and highly skilled at his craft. He took pride in his work and it showed in the execution of his projects. Prior to building his business from the ground up, John worked for Exide Technologies for 20 years.

John enjoyed riding his motorcycle and taking his boat out on the water. While boating, he was able to relax and make special memories with his family, especially his nephew Lucas. When John had the chance, he loved traveling to Aruba and unwinding on the beach. He greatly loved his dogs, Benji and Max, playing pinochle with his friends, and whole heartedly rooted for the Dallas Cowboys. John was a man with integrity, strength, and approached all with kindness and generosity. He will be deeply missed.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held Saturday January 25, 2020 at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory at 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA. Doors will open to guests at 2:00pm, with a time of sharing starting at 3:00pm. Condolences to the Family

February 07, 2022

Sue and family, I’m writing this two years since. When I think of John I still grieve, but I’m thankful for the way he did business with people and with me! It is a standard I learned from him and therefore has made me better in the business world. He would always answer every phone call during work which is something I’ve never yet disciplined myself to do. Just an amazing man and cousin of mine!
Be blessed all, Joe Aukamp

This is a difficult note to write as I have known John for quite awhile and had a wonderful working relationship with him at Deer Ford.  John was a man of great talent, a great heart, and a man of integrity.  He was kind, soft spoken, a very hard worker, and he had resprct for all.  Everyone that knew him loved and respected him.  I will miss him greatly and my most heartfelt condolences to all of his family.  May your wonderful memories and special moments shared be of comfort to you as time passes.

Susie, we loved John and were so grateful for all he has done for us. We always felt he treated us like family when he did Project for us. He was so skilled in his ability’s and I loved his Sense of humor the way he would stop his truck and kneel down for Roxy to run to him she loved him and had so much fun with him would look for his truck and still when she see a white van she stops and look for him. Be at peace he’s with his savior. We love you.

I am so sorry to hear about John. I’ve known John and done business with him for 14 years. He was one of my first customers when I got into sales, and he grew to be a good friend. We did a lot of business over the years and would talk at least a couple of times a week. His integrity always showed through in his business dealings, John was always straight and honest about everything, a trait not present in a lot of contractors. I can’t think of one customer over the years who wouldn’t have had him back to do work; a high honor in today’s world. John also taught me a lot about boating and the upper bay, they were two of his passions. He would always remember and follow up on any questions I asked him about my boat or things I asked him about the bay. I was hoping to take a trip to the Inner Harbor with him in 2020. John will be greatly missed in our world.
