John Fridy Kendig, 48
John F. Kendig of 366 Atkins Avenue died in Virginia on June 1, 2007 after a brief illness .
He was born in Mountville, Pennsylvania on April 19, 1921.
He was the son of the late Calvin Miles Kendig and Blanche Fridy Kendig. He graduated from Franklin Marshall Academy and attended Rollins College, Winter Park, Florida. He was a member of the Greek Fraternity of Phi delta Theta.
In World War II, he flew with the 389th Heavy Bombardment Group of the 8th Air Force in B-24’s while stationed in Norwich, England.
He was a member of the Hamilton Park United Church of Christ, and a charter member of the Mountville V.F.W. post #8757. He was also a member of the Lancaster American Legion Post #34, Lancaster Elks #134, Central Pennsylvania Jazz Club, Antique Automobile Club of America, Packard International Motor Car Club, Auburn – Cord – Dusenburg Club, Riverside Camping Association, Loyal Order of Moose and the Lancaster Leiderkranz.
He was employed by Lancaster Newspapers, Inc. as the Parking Manager.
He is survived by a daughter, Diane Kendig Mansfield and her husband Calvin of Hampton, VA., and two grandchildren, Ashley Kendig Mansfield of Coatesville, PA. and Calvin Kendig Mansfield of Hampton, VA.
A memorial service will be held at Hamilton Park United Church of Christ, 1210 Maple Ave. Lancaster on Saturday June 16th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John’s memory to Mountville V.F.W. Post 8757, 48 E. Main Street, Mountville,PA.17554. Arrangements by the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home.
