John C. McCourt, 72

John C. McCourt, 72, Landisville, died peacefully on September 6, 2017 at Hospice and Community Care, Mt. Joy, PA after a one year battle with esophageal cancer.
Born in Philadelphia, he was son of the late Charles and Bessie (Stiles) McCourt. He was the husband of Janice E. (Gantz) McCourt; they observed their 44th wedding anniversary in December of last year. He is also survived by his son, Shawn C. McCourt, Etters, PA, and his sister, Patricia Monaghan, Buffalo Grove, IL.
Serving honorably in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1962 through 1966, he spent the majority of his service stationed in Okinawa. In addition to his service, John was an electrician for over 50 years, spending a majority of his career working at Armstrong in Marietta, PA; after which, he started his own electrical contracting business. John was not only passionate about his electrical work, but also found joy in drawing, winning several awards for his artwork over the years.
A private interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Darby, PA will be held for friends and family at the family’s convenience. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in memory of John to: Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute Fund, 609 N. Cherry Street, P.O. Box 3555, Lancaster, PA 17604.

I only knew John from the counter at Louis Family Restaurant. He often entertained my son and I with his sense of humor and art work. We are sorry for your loss.

Janice I was so sorry to hear of John’s passing. I think I saw him about a year ago and did not get a chance to talk to him. Please know people care and you will be in my thoughts and prayers.
