Jennie R. Verrico, 90
Jennie R. Verrico, 90, of Lancaster, PA and formerly of Stamford, CT passed away peacefully with her family by her side on June 16, 2009 at The Glen of Willow Valley. She was born July 4, 1918 in Fall River, MA. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Angelina (D’Ambrosio) Longo.
Jennie was the wife of the late Patsy Verrico who passed away in 2003.
She was of the Catholic faith and was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church of Lancaster, PA. She was a former member of the Italian American Association of Stamford, CT
Jennie retired from General Electric Corp. and devoted the rest of her life to her family. She loved to crochet and made many baby blankets and hats for friends and for some she didn’t even know. She also enjoyed playing scrabble with family and volunteer’s at Willow Valley. The family deeply appreciates the friendship and love given to her by Hazel Lehman at Willow Valley.
Jennie resided at The Glen of Willow Valley for the last four years. The family would like to thank all the nurses and staff at Willow Valley for their loving care and support. We would also like to thank Hospice of Lancaster County for their support and kindness.
She is survived by two daughters; Pat Sabocsik wife of Mike, of Toughkenamon, PA and Gerry Weaver wife of Ron, of Lancaster, PA, three grandchildren Michelle Murphy wife of Ashley, Melissa Maule wife of Frank, and Ron Weaver II, two great-grandchildren Ian and Nicholas Murphy, sister Marietta Sabini of Stamford, CT, and a brother Albert Longo of Stamford, CT. She was preceded in death by brothers Jerry and Paul Longo and sisters Rose, Antionette, and Angie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place from Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 403 Scofieldtown Rd., Stamford, CT 06093 at Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 10:30am with Rev. Robert Hyl as Celebrant. Viewings will be held on Friday from 4-8pm at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Ave. Stamford, CT 06902 and again on Saturday from 9-9:30am. Interment will take place in the family mausoleum at the Queen of Peace Cemetery, Stamford, CT. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jennie’s memory may be made to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Dr. PO Box 4125 Lancaster, PA 17604. Arrangements made by Charles F. I am so glad Jennie is with her husband. This was her wish during her time in Willow Valley. I know she is happy. We will miss her, and the wonderful visits from her daughters. We have many happy memories about Jennie and will always share them for a long time. You all will be in our prayers, and please pray for us that God will continue to give us the compassion, and strength to enrich the lives of Jennies friends, and other Residents from Willow Valley, so when the time comes , as it did for Jennie they will take wonderful memories along to share with their loved ones in Heaven.
