Obituaries

Jeanne L. Hartung, 80

Jeanne L. Hartung, 80, formerly of 2005 Northbrook Dr., went into God’s embrace in the early hours of Sunday morning.

She was the wife of the late Marlowe W. “Bud” Hartung, who passed away in 2001. Born in Northampton, PA, Jeanne was the daughter of the late Paul K. and Ruth L. Miller Kulp Clymer.

She had worked as a secretary for the PA Crop Improvement Assn, as well as Marlowe W. Hartung, Inc.

Jeanne enjoyed her food and loved to entertain, hosting pinochle and bridge parties. She made extravagant holiday meals, painted Easter eggs, and loved putting together Easter baskets for everyone. In years past, she would visit Roots Flea Market, talking to friends and vendors. She had been an antiques dealer and owner of Pandora’s Antiques with her family. A quilt and textile enthusiast, she provided Lancaster County’s new courthouse annex with a Trip Around The World Quilt.

An accomplished bowler, Jeanne bowled in the Lancaster Bowling League, where she was captain of the “Morning Glorys”, from which she received numerous trophies.

She loved to read and watch the Philadelphia 76ers basketball games on television. Also an avid gardener, Jeanne took great pride in her beautiful flower gardens. She loved to travel with her family and enjoyed her mountain home with her husband and family, where she looked forward to her husband’s evening catch of the day.

Recently, she became known as the “Sock Lady” for interesting socks, and had been known as the “Hat Lady”, with an extensive collection of hats. She was a woman who didn’t feel complete going out without her hat and pocketbook.

Jeanne was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she had taught Sunday School. She was a direct descendant of one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.

She is survived by her four children: Melissa Hartung, married to William Brenner of Lancaster, Keith  married to Cathy Hartung of Delaware, Brant E. Hartung of Waterville, PA, and Pamela J. Hartung of Maine; her three grandchildren: Lokshmi, Alisha, and Raevynn; and by her sister, Marilyn R. Quay of Allentown.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 630-7PM at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home and Chapel, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, with the memorial service to follow at 7PM, the Rev John Smaligo officiating. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery in Allentown, PA.

A long life and many family memories. I’m certain you all will remember your mom most fondly. She certainly lived a colorful life.

My thoughts are with you as you celebrate the life your mom lived.

Cathy & Keith,

Ida and I wish to express our sincere sympathy in the passing of your loved one. I spoke with Ida by phone today.

I remember your mother coming into the dealership while I was working there. She must have been a "special" lady.

I hope you are both doing well and enjoying Delaware. I am married again to David Heisey and presently live in Ephrata.

God bless you both and your family.

With heartfelt sympathy,

Pat Simons Heisey

Melissa,

So sorry about the death of both of your parents.  I didn’t know they were both Lehigh Valley natives;that’s where I live now. I remember the good ol’ days in Northbrook Hills!

Tracy Campbell Roeder

Your family has my sympathy on the passing of your mom. What caught my eye in the obituary page were the two great pictures of her. As I read the name and address, I realized I “knew” this great lady. Well, not actually knew her, but I was a friend of Pam’s in either junior high school (so long ago I forget specifics). What I do remember is loving to come to your house because your mom was so nice! She must have been a very special person, because I can see the love you all had for her by reading the obituary. Those are the kinds of tributes that really show the person as they lived!

Take care … celebrate the wonderful life of your mother and may memories give you
comfort and make you smile.

Sincerely,
Diane (Smith) Luta
