Jean R. Vollmer, 83

Jean Rosalind (Franklin) Vollmer, 83, of Lancaster and formerly of Allentown, PA, passed away on July 17, 2012 at Conestoga View Nursing Home.  Born in Parkersburg, WV, she was the daughter of the late Shirley Brannon and Ada Loine (Wells) Franklin.

After high school, Jean worked as an accountant for Libby Owen Ford until her marriage to Donald G. Vollmer; with whom she celebrated 57 years of marriage.  A secret to their happy marriage has been “trusting in the Lord and each other”.

Following her marriage, the couple moved from Parkersburg, WV to Camden, NJ, Allentown, PA to Cockeysville, MD before retiring and moving to Lancaster, PA in 1992.  She had three children, the late Allen F. Vollmer; and two daughters: Carol L. V. Chintala, wife of the late Jefferey M. of Coatesville, PA and Ann E. Barry, wife of Timothy of Canadensis, PA.  Jean had four grandchildren:  Nicole Chintala of Coatesville, PA, Alexander Chintala of Philadephia, PA, and Kimberly and Donald Barry of Canadensis, PA.  She devoted many hours with each of them as a wonderful grandmother, and was a baby-sitter whenever possible.  She was preceded in death by a sister: Edith Coley.

Jean was very artistic, doing various projects during her time such as cut glass, needle work, free hand oil painting, and throwing pottery.  Her work is displayed in her home. She was a member of New Life Assembly of God Church.  Jean and her husband both volunteered in the church and sang in the choir.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at New Life Assembly of God Church, 1991 Old Philadelphia Pike, Lancaster, PA 17602 with Rev. D.J. Paglia officiating.  Family and friends will be received from 10-11 AM at church.  Interment will be at 11 AM on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Allentown, PA.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Jean’s memory to Conestoga View Auxillary, 900 East King St., Lancaster, PA 17602.  To send the family online condolences, please visit SnyderFuneralHome.com. Dear Don,

You and Jean have been such an inspiration, not only to us, but to everyone who has ever known you.  Your love and devotion to one another throughout all your 58 years of marriage has been something that everyone should emulate in their marriage.  You not only loved one another, but your love has grown deeper and more meaningful with each passing year.  Your devotion to Jean at the nursing home over the past four years has been exemplery.  You both touched so many lives at Conestoga and only in eternity will you ever know what you have done.  Thank you for the privilege and blessing it has been knowing and spending time with you both.  We love you Don, and look forward to the time will we continue to spend with you.  God bless you, Your friends,
Carol & Pete Ragaller
