Janet J. Long, 89
Janet J. Long, 89, of Lancaster, entered into the Lord’s arms on December 22, 2008 at Essa Flory Hospice Center after a brief illness.
Born in Lancaster, Janet was the daughter of the late John N. and Ruth (Heistaud) Judge. She was the wife of the late Dr. Albert J. Long.
Janet was a 1938 graduate of Manheim Township High School, and was a member of the former St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing class of 1942. Janet served in the US Navy Nursing Corps for two years, as an ensign RN at US Navel Training Station, Farragut, ID. She served as president of St. Joseph Hospital Nursing Alumni, and volunteered for St. Joseph Hospital.
Janet was a former member of Lancaster Country Club, Conestoga Country Club, and Hamilton Club. A homemaker, Janet’s hobbies included needlepoint, embroidery, reading, dancing, singing, attending the Fulton Opera, and word search puzzles.
Janet was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church.
Janet is survived by her five children: Janet Suzanne Curtin of New York City, Kathleen Lysak, wife of Theodore, of Sarasota, FL, Phyllis Long, James M. Long, husband of Kathy M., and Jeanne Long, all of Lancaster, and brother, C. Nat Netscher, husband of Nan, of Lancaster. Also remembering “Gramme” are five grandchildren; Valerie, Michael, Kristin, Lisa, Nicholas, and greatgrandson, Jackson. In addition to her husband and parents, Janet is preceded in death by her sister, Betty J. Miller.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial being held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 558 W. Walnut St., Lancaster, PA on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 11AM with Rev. Michael J. Grab as Celebrant. A viewing will be held at the church Saturday morning from 10 until 11AM. Private interment will take place in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery at the convenience of the family. So sorry for your loss. Orpha Bauer called and left me know. I had been in your parents Wedding and had kept in touch, each year when I came for a visit in the east. I am now in a retirement independent living facility.
