James H. “Jim” Scott, 70

Jim Scott, 70, of Lancaster, PA and Sarasota, FL died unexpectedly April 21, 2011 in Sarasota.  He was born in Pittsburgh, the son of the late James H. and Emeline McKennan Scott.

Jim was married to his wife, Linda, for 41 years. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Michael Scott, husband of Lisa Scott and Patrick Scott, partner of Jessi Walsh; three grandchildren: Alexis, Skylar and Mason; his sister Mathilda Painter, two nieces and one nephew.

He was a graduate of Kiski School, Saltsburg, Pa and attended the University of Pittsburgh.  In his early years in Pittsburgh, he was a garbage man, a steel mill worker, and a car salesman.  From then on, he was always in sales and marketing.  In the late 1970s, he went into business for himself, acquiring The Dyer Company, which today sells its specialty measuring gauges nationwide and in several countries. Having an entrepreneurial spirit, he was also involved in numerous ventures over the years.

Jim loved playing golf with his friends in Lancaster and Sarasota, and “never had a bad day on the golf course.”  He was as avid fan of Pitt sports as well as an enthusiastic “spokesman” for the city and the University.  In addition, you could always find him in the front row at various Lancaster Catholic and Hempfield games.

Jim will be remembered for his outgoing, kind and thoughtful nature and his positive attitude.  He seldom looked back, always believing that “his best was good enough.”

Friends will be received on Friday, May 13, 2011 from 9-10AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 119 S. Prince St., Lancaster, PA, with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10AM, the Rev. Leo Goodman as Celebrant. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim’s memory may be made to Lancaster Catholic High School, 650 Juliette Ave., Lancaster, PA 17601.
