Ida Curcio Martin, 96

October 10, 2018

Ida Curcio Martin died Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at Homestead Manor in Denton, MD. She was 96.

Ida was born February 21, 1922, in Hazleton, PA, to Joseph and Martha (Walker) Curcio. She grew up in a big close family; her father had emigrated from Italy and she had 56 maternal cousins. A graduate of Hazelton High, she co-edited the student newspaper. She worked in the office at Genetti’s, where she met Harry Pugh Martin. They wed on June 28, 1945, and were married for nearly 70 years.

The Martins resided in Lancaster, PA, and had two children, Mary Beth and Hank. Ida enjoyed working with the sisters at St. Joseph’s Hospital, eventually becoming head of the billing department. After she and Harry retired to Denton, she attended St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, and volunteered at St. Martin’s Barn. She was an excellent cook, known especially for her meatballs and pumpkin pie. She loved the company of her family and friends, and always kept in touch with them, including at regular reunions. She laughed often, and family was everything to her.

She is survived by her son Harry Martin (Lisa); her son-in-law Jack Headley (Tessie); her siblings Richard (Diane), Joseph and Elaine Curcio; and her grandchildren Kerry Headley, Alice Headley (Emily Pirkle), Jack Brendan Headley (Kristen), Katie Curtin (Jason), and Jennifer Martin (Nic Glass). She also had nine great-grandchildren, and special nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by her husband Harry in 2015 and her daughter Mary Beth Headley in 1988, as well as her brother Frank and sisters Carmella, Marie, Antoinette and Carolyn.

Special thanks to Compass Regional Hospice, and the residents and caring staff at Homestead Manor who she became close with in recent years.

On Tuesday, October 16th , Visitation is to begin at 12 p.m. and a Prayer Service to follow at 1 p.m. at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 441 North George Street, Millersville, PA, 17551. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s New Catholic Cemetery in Lancaster, PA. Harry, very sorry to hear of your Mother’s passing. Although I did not know her, Kevin has told me about how wonderful your parents were over the years. R.I.P. Mrs. Martin. Sincerely, Phil McCaskey
