Helen Flowers Nixon, 81
Helen Flowers Nixon, 81, of Lancaster, went to be with the Lord on July 27, 2006. She was the daughter of the late Hazel Frazier Sinclair and Benjamin Flowers. She was preceded in death by her sister Mrs. Marie Greene of Lake City, NC.
Mrs. Nixon was a graduate of the Florida public school system and was also a teacher’s aide.
On July 18, 1943 she married the now late Leroy Nixon. Together they ran a restaurant and pool room in Auburndale, Fla. They moved to Lancaster in 1957. She worked as a domestic for a number of years and was a former employee of Hubley’s Toys and Grinnell’s Foundry of Columbia, PA. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church of Lancaster, where she served on the Missionary Deaconess Board. She was also a Past Worthy Matron of Silvery Moon #56 of Lancaster.
She lovingly leaves to carry on six children, Leroy R. Jr., Ralph A. husband of Marilyn Nixon of Fayetteville, GA; David E. husband of Rev. Linda Spain Nixon of Fairburn, GA; Charles E. of Lancaster; Hazel E. of Lake City, SC; Evelyn L. Nixon-Fannin wife of John Fannin of Lancaster; ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The funeral service will be held at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., 414 E. King St., Lancaster, PA on Monday, July 31st starting with the Order of the Eastern star at 7:30PM. Interment in Ochlocknee, Georgia. Friends may attend the viewing at the funeral home on Monday from 6-7:30PM.
