Helen Davis, 86

November 25, 2016

Helen Davis, 86, passed away on Friday, November 25, 2016 at Country Meadows, Lancaster, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in Holsopple, Somerset County, PA to the late Joseph and Anna Rabic. Helen was so sweet and loved by everyone who knew her. She lost her beloved husband, Lester R. Davis, in 2005.

A graduate of Conemaugh Township High School in Davidsville, she worked at the McCrory’s in Johnstown, from 1949-1956, where she met her future husband Les. He called her his “Million Dollar Baby in a 5 & 10 cent Store”. Helen then worked for RCA in Lancaster, from 1956-1961, when she left to become a mother. She later went to work for the Lancaster County Career and Technology Center, where she retired in 1993 as a cafeteria manager, after 23 years.

Helen loved her Church and was a faithful member & volunteer of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.

She was a devoted wife, mother, and nanny. Helen loved her children & grandchildren with all her heart and soul; they were her life. She was a quiet, simple and sensitive lady, but most of all was lovable and fun. Helen always put her husband and family first. She delighted in supporting all of her grandchildren in their activities. Helen cherished the strong connection she had with the families of her Ranck Mill Rd. neighborhood. She loved playing pinochle with her card club friends, & enjoyed the neighborhood picnics

Helen is survived by her daughters, Leslie, wife of Robert Houser of Mountville, and Paula, wife of Denis Armstrong of Paola, KS; 5 grandchildren, Ashley, wife of Andrew Warner of York, Josh Houser of Mountville, Katie Armstrong of Cocoa, FL, Gretchen and Jillian Armstrong both of Paola, KS; and her great granddaughter Gracynn Warner. Her siblings Joseph, Annie, John and Mickey Rabic and Mary Garlesky preceded Helen in death.

Condolences to the Family

December 01, 2016

Dear Leslie, I am so sorry to learn of the loss of your mom. I will remember her just as her photo appears, with a smile on her face, and a twinkle in her eyes. Her love for you and Paula was so evident when we were kids, and I know she must have been delighted to share in the lives of your children. Please know that I am thinking of you all. Sincerely, Kathy VanAulen Seifred

I am sorry for the loss of your beloved mother and grandmother. She and her husband would love surprising the girls for Gandparent’s Day and other times throughout the school year. I have often thought of her and her gentle ways. I know that she will be greatly missed.

November 29, 2016

I am saddened to learn that you’re mourning the loss of your dear love one. However, it saddens our God even more. No doubt, you have many fond memories which will resurface from time to time. Because you do have memories, it certainly shows that Almighty God has memories as well. Therefore, with full confidence you can take comfort in knowing that he longs to restore perfect life to all those in his memory (Job 14:13-15; Rev 21:3, 4). Please accept my condolences at this most distressing time.
Sincerely,
Currine
