Harriet Hershey Neil, 97, of Millersville, passed away on Monday, December 21 at Country Meadows, Lancaster.
She was born in Nashville, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Ira G. Hershey and the late Anna Pearl Longenecker Hershey. Her husband, Carl B. Neil, passed away in 1998. She is survived by daughters Barbara N. Haverstick, wife of Scott Haverstick, Washington Boro and Susan Woisin, wife of Ronald Woisin Narragansett, Rhode Island. Harriet loved traveling, and, along with her husband, traveled extensively during her retirement years. A doting grandmother and great grandmother, she was always available for sleepovers, craft sessions, and game playing. Sewing, needlepoint, painting, quilting, and baking were all pursuits that she excelled in and enjoyed.

She served as inspector of Elections in Millersville for 8 years, on the Vantage House Advisory Board and Vantage Capital Campaign, and on the Advisory Board of the Lancaster County Drug and Alcohol Council.

In January, 1967, Harriet opened a women’s dress shop, The Clothes Tree, in Millersville, and successfully operated the shop for nearly 20 years. The Clothes Tree was well-known throughout the area as a place to find both classic women’s clothing and attentive customer service.

To the Family of Harriet Neil,
Harriet’s creation of The Clothes Tree was a remarkable accompllishment for this Lancaster area.  She chose a lovely assortment of women’s clothing in classic mode and of commendable quality.  She also expected from her staff both cordial and capable service to every customer.  I so missed her store when I moved away.  I think the store probably reflected the high expectations and appealing outreach that Harriet herself embodied.
She was greatly missed in the retail world, and I know she will be missed greatly by her friends and family.  What a treasury of memories she passes on and that you can all enjoy.
Deepest sympathy to you all.
