Harold J. Eckenrode, 88

Harold J. Eckenrode, 88, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at the Lancaster Regional Medical Center. Born in White Plains, NY, he was the son of the late Thomas B. and E. Helen (Gurrier) Eckenrode.

Harold retired as a Senior Master Sergeant after 22 years of service with the U.S. Air Force. He was a lifetime member of AFSA, TREA, the Carpetbaggers, the Millersville VFW, American Legion Post 56 of Lititz and the American Military Society. He was a member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church since 1967. Harold loved to travel and take photographs around the world.

Surviving are two daughters: Karen Ritchey of Holtwood, PA and Luanne Graham, wife of Scott Graham, of Morgantown, PA; and three grandchildren: Heather Ritchey, Jennifer Ritchey, wife of Raymond May, and Ross Ritchey, husband of Kira Kegg.

Harold was preceded in death by his siblings: Thomas Boyd Eckenrode, William R. Eckenrode, Henry Lee Eckenrode, James H. Eckenrode, Mary Lee Geiter and Anna Boyd Schweitzer.

A viewing will be held from 2-4 PM on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 414 E. King Street, Lancaster, PA 17602. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 AM on Friday, November 8, 2013 at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 2111 Millersville Pike, Lancaster, PA 17603 with Rev. Mark E. Weiss as Celebrant. Interment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church.

I’m very sorry to hear of the loss of your father/grandfather.  Harold was a friend of my aunt, Anne Vasseur.  Due to that friendship he did spend a number of holidays with my husband and myself.  Although my aunt passed away a number of years ago, I do remember that the two of them did have many fun times together including going the the Poconos and Florida together.  Nancy Kobrin
